If anything, Bristol City waste an even better chance than the one Wolves just had at the other end.

Nathan Baker rises highest, but heads over the bar.

A minute and stoppage time to play until half-time.

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Wolves have taken the sting out of the game in the past 10 minutes or so and go close to an opener themselves.

Giant defender Willy Boly, who looks a bit like a Year 11 challenging a bunch of Year 7s because he's so tall, wins a header from a corner and it slides just wide of the far post.

  3. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Bristol City are dominating possession against the 10 men of Wolves, as you might expect, but visiting goalkeeper John Ruddy hasn't really been tested since Danny Batth's red card.

And that's just the way Wolves will want things to stay, you would think.

Did Wolves captain Danny Batth deserve a red card for his challenge on Hordur Magnusson early in this first half? Keep sending us your thoughts using #bbcefl on Twitter.

Steve Magee: Show your studs in a tackle and it's a red card. Simples. Bristol City vs Wolves or Real Madrid vs Barcelona. The law is the same

Rich: I'm a City fan so I'm delighted with the red, but very harsh from the ref. Studs up but not two footed and not out of control. Yellow all day.

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Much of Wolves' attacking threat in this game now depends on Diogo Jota and Helder Costa, after Leo Bonatini was sacrificed to bring on another defender following Danny Batth's red card.

The service has to be spot on to Wolves' nominal front two - they're not the type to be winning headers against giant centre-backs like Aden Flint.

  6. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Hordur Magnusson sends in another beautifully whipped cross from the Bristol City left but Josh Brownhill can't get a meaningful contact and the ball flies behind for a goal kick.

Gary Madine scored the only goal as Bolton climbed to 22nd in the Championship table with a 1-0 victory at Sheffield United, their first away league win of the season. The Trotters' players took to Twitter to celebrate the result...

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Bristol City dropped to third in the Championship following Derby's win at Ipswich earlier today.

Against 10 men, they've got a golden chance now to move back up to second and close the gap to leaders Wolves to five points.

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

After a hectic last 10 minutes, Wolves need to regain some composure here. Romain Saiss makes a wonderful defensive header from a cross to concede a corner, with Bristol City players lurking in the penalty area.

  10. Douglas hits the post for Wolvespublished at 20 mins

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Oh my word! Wolves hit the post with a Barry Douglas free-kick. Inches away from a wonderful goal.

So then - the visitors have had their captain and head coach sent off, their goalkeeper has made two fine saves, and now they've hit the woodwork.

A quiet first 20 minutes at Ashton Gate.

  11. Wolves boss Nuno sent to standspublished at 18 mins

Wolves appeal for a penalty for a foul on Diogo Jota, but the referee decides the infringement is outside the box.

It's a free-kick, which Ruben Neves and Barry Douglas are standing over...

Hang on - has Peter Bankes sent Nuno to the stands?! He certainly has! Must have been for something the Wolves boss said to the officials - either that or he encroached out of his technical area.

  13. Wolves captain Batth sent offpublished at 14 mins

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

A big, big talking point. Wolves captain Danny Batth sees red for a challenge on Hordur Magnusson.

Batth lunged in with his studs lifted, he got to the ball first, but also made contact with Magnusson.

Referee Peter Bankes had no hesitation and the red card was shown.

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Bristol City are the only team to score more than twice against Wolves this season, netting three in their draw at Molineux in September, and they're threatening the Wolves goal again in the early stages at Ashton Gate.

  15. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Bristol City go close again, in almost identical fashion to their earlier chance.

Bobby Reid meets Hordur Magnusson's cross at the near post and John Ruddy again makes the save.

  16. Reaction: 'The biggest result of the season'published at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    FT: Ipswich 1-2 Derby

Sam Winnall celebrates his goal for Derby at IpswichImage source, Empics

Derby moved into second place in the Championship ahead of Bristol City's game against Wolves with a 2-1 victory at Ipswich.

"I'll be honest, I think that's the biggest result of the season for us," manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby.

"We can't control what other people do, all we can do is keep putting other teams under pressure.

"We're sat in second at the minute but that means nothing. The Championship's ruthless, we've got a day's rest and then we've got another game."

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

A brilliant save from John Ruddy keeps this game scoreless.

Jamie Paterson glances a header towards goal and Wolves goalkeeper Ruddy flings himself towards his far post to push it behind for a Bristol City corner.

Wolves counter attack quickly and Joe Bryan makes a crucial interception to stop Helder Costa making any further progress.

A first sight of goal for Wolves - albeit a brief one - as Leo Bonatini works a bit of space 25 yards out but is quickly closed down by the home defence.

  19. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

Bristol City are lining up in a 3-5-2 formation with Joe Bryan in an unfamiliar central midfield position, probably in an attempt to match up with the Wolves system.

No semblance of a chance for either side so far.

  20. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Bristol City 0-0 Wolves

The two head coaches Lee Johnson and Nuno Espirito Santo - who are good friends having studied for one of their coaching badges together - share a warm embrace as kick-off approaches.

Bristol City are in red and white, Wolves in black. It's the hosts who get the game under way.
