Paul Duffield: As bad as Arsenal are, if someone like Ancelotti comes in, spends £150m on three or four top players and instills fresh belief, Arsenal will be competitive again. As a Spurs fan I really don’t like to admit it, but it’s true.

Matthew Vins: Good mid-table match this.

Eddie Howe needs to offer up something a bit different, because it's gone a bit stale for Bournemouth, they haven't created enough in this game. Arsenal on the other hand have been very, very fluent going forward, and their defenders have dealt well with everything that's come their way.

  5. CLOSE!published at 65 mins

    Bournemouth 0-1 Arsenal

Good work by Simon Francis as he keeps the ball alive on the by-line and hooks the ball across goal towards the far post. It's dangerous for Arsenal and inviting for Bournemouth but Calum Chambers is there to clear.

What was that about Alex Iwobi? He brings nothing to Arsenal's game? Wow football fans have no patience, no faith, no sense of perspective...

Michael Scarn: Arsenal scored! Now what are their fans supposed to moan about?

Alex: To call Lacazette a poor signing is ludicrous. Arsenal have such a young, talented team at the moment, with Ozil and Sanchez gone it will allow them to develop.

Steve Cook needs to tread carefully. He's already been booked and he gives away a free-kick midway inside Bournemouth's half by standing on Hector Bellerin's foot.

Granit Xhaka takes the free kick and Bournemouth struggle to clear before referee Kevin Friend blows for a foul inside the box.

  14. 'A really well worked move'published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Arsenal

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

What we have to say is that it's a really well worked move - right from Arsenal's own penalty box. Alex Iwobi's played a great ball into Hector Bellerin, and he's got acres of space to run into, and he gets lucky with the finish. Bournemouth had been the brighter side after half time, but they've been caught on the break.

    Hector Bellerin

    The breakthrough!

Brilliant ball by Alex Iwobi unlocks the Bournemouth defence as he tucks a pass just inside the fullback for Hector Bellerin to run on to. Bellerin shoots and Asmir Begovic takes the sting out of it but can only watch as the ball drops into the back of the net.

Colesy: I would love to see Sanchez join Man United, but only if it doesn’t reduce game time for Martial and Lingard! Pogba, Matic; Sanchez, Lingard, Martial; Lukaku would be a nice line up!

Belete: Arsenal giving Wenger a new deal was laughable. The board has no ambition, they're just happy to count their money.

Now it's Bournemouth's turn to attack as Charlie Daniels' low centre is stabbed behind for a corner. Ryan Fraser's ball in is half cleared before Dan Gosling thumps an effort over the bar.

A lot of people here have been very impressed with the first-half performance of Jack Wilshere - fellow journalists discussing it over the half-time cup of tea and Bournemouth fans as well who watched Wilshere playing for them last season.

If VAR was a part of Premier League football already then Bournemouth might have had a penalty for a handball by Alex Iwobi and Eddie Howe will also feel hard done by with Dan Gosling and Simon Francis picking up yellow cards when both decisions looked harsh.

  19. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Arsenal

Nice move by Arsenal as the ball is quickly worked between Alex Iwobi, Alexandre Lacazette and eventually out wide to Jack Wilshere but his cutback is straight to a Bournemouth player.

That was an attack that sums up Arsenal's play in this game - lots of nice touches and little flicks but no end product.
