  1. CLOSE!published at 82 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

Oh we've seen him find the net so many times like this. From the edge of the box, Kevin de Bruyne shapes a first-time shot just wide of the post.

Newcastle survive - again. EIGHT minutes to play.

  2. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

Jacob Murphy has space to run. He beats Nicolas Otamendi but cannot find DeAndre Yedlin on the overlap to his right.

Into the last 10 minutes we go.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 78 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

Ciaran Clark chops down Kevin de Bruyne, who was way past him. A yellow card - the game's first.

David Silva drifts it in and Karl Darlow makes an excellent claim in front of his defenders.

All retreat for Newcastle again now. Will they get another big chance?

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

Another change for Newcastle - their final one (DeAndre Yedlin also replaced Javier Manquillo earlier.)

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

    Steve McClaren
Ex-England manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Perez had the ball breaking forward then and suddenly he had five Newcastle runners ahead of him. The mood has changed in this game. Newcastle are well in it - City have slowed the tempo right down and the visitors have got a real chance.

Richard: Some might say that Sterling penalty had no more contact than the Morata one against Norwich where he was booked for diving.

Mark: That was nowhere near as bad as Morata the other day and he got sent off. Crazy.

  7. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

Here come Newcastle again - there is three on three if they can get the pass right on this counter...

But Ayoze Perez - who came on for Christian Atsu earlier - knocks his pass too long and into Ederson's gloves.

Into the last 15 minutes we go...

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

    Gary Flintoff
BBC Radio 5 live at Etihad Stadium

The Etihad has been stunned by that goal, but the Newcastle fans are having a party behind the goal away to my right. Surely Newcastle cannot get another to make it 2-2?

  9. CLOSE!published at 72 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

Brilliant from Mohamed Diame as he powers into a loose ball, slides into the box with purpose and smashes a drive into Ederson's gloves. Diame gets another bite and Ederson has to dive at his feet to knock the ball clear - before City finally get it out of danger for good.

Much, much better from the away side!

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 70 mins

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

    Man City have woken up.

Leroy Sane darts into space, he cuts back temptingly for Raheem Sterling, and his first-time low shot is deflected onto the post by the sprawling shape of Karl Darlow.

    This could get interesting...

  11. 'Better for the neutral'published at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2018

    Man City 2-1 Newcastle

    Steve McClaren
Ex-England manager on BBC Radio 5 live

That's the first time Newcastle have been in the City half for 65 minutes. It shows the vulnerability about playing Zinchenko - he's at fault there. When the ball breaks down, he's out of position and Murphy races through to score a composed finish. Suddenly, we're back to where we were before with just one goal in it. It definitely livens this game up for the neutral.

  12. goal

GOAL - Man City 2-1 Newcastlepublished at 67 mins

    Jacob Murphy

From nowhere. Absolutely nowhere! Jacob Murphy is sent racing through on goal from one pass out from the back - it's Ciaran Clark who launches up the pitch first-time from a loose ball, with City's players all still really high up the pitch.

Murphy has time to think and soak it in - but he does not falter, dinking the ball smartly over the on-rushing Ederson.

    Game on?

  13. Postpublished at 65 mins

    Man City 2-0 Newcastle

What now for Newcastle and Rafa Benitez then?

Jacob Murphy launches in a cross from the right wing looking for - amazingly - one of three black and white shirts in the City box.

There is a looping headed clearance and City are away on the counter - until the ref brings play back for a foul in the middle.

  14. 'Crucial second goal'published at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2018

    Man City 2-0 Newcastle

    Steve McClaren
Ex-England manager on BBC Radio 5 live

All Newcastle's best-laid plans have gone out of the window. Rafa Benitez is planning to give it a go at 1-0 with Perez coming on on but then a neat 1-2 between Sterling and Sane, Sterling bursts into the box, gets clipped and goes down. Aguero scores the penalty and Newcastle hopes are shattered. Guardiola knows how crucial that goal is to seal this game.

  15. goal

GOAL - Man City 2-0 Newcastlepublished at 63 mins

    Sergio Aguero (pen)

    Sergio Aguero steps up. Confident.

And he sends it swerving into the net - his second of the match.

    No doubt about that one!

  16. PENALTY - TO CITYpublished at 62 mins

    Man City 1-0 Newcastle

Javier Manquillo is penalised for a tug on Raheem Sterling - who crashed to the floor. Penalty.

  17. CHANCE!published at 60 mins

    Man City 1-0 Newcastle

A great intervention from Isaac Hayden denies Sergio Aguero a certain goal.

Kyle Walker beat the offside trap to break clear down the right of the box, and his drilled cross was destined for Aguero's boot - until Hayden slid in from behind to clear for a corner. Top work.

I know what Rafa is planning. He has obviously been studying Ali vs Foreman and Newcastle are taking a pounding on the ropes before they bounce off in the 80th for 2 quick goals. Genius.

  19. Newcastle settlingpublished at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2018

    Man City 1-0 Newcastle

    Steve McClaren
Ex-England manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Newcastle are starting to look a bit more comfortable with their 5-4-1 shape. City are constantly keeping the ball but it's entirely in front of Newcastle. They've stopped probing, the intensity has dropped a bit and anything can happen when the score is only 1-0.

  20. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Man City 1-0 Newcastle

    A touch for Ederson!

Jamaal Lascelles had booted the ball up the park to nobody in particular - but it gave his side the chance to press higher up the pitch, like their manager seemingly has been demanding.

Ederson played a neat pass out to Fernandinho. No drama. It's pretty hard to get City rattled when they've been bossing a game like this.
