Mandy, Newcastle: I really don’t get this playing weakened teams against lower clubs nonsense. It’s no shock there are so many upsets. When was the last time a Premiership side played a weakened team and won. Then they have to waste more time and effort playing again in the reply, where they usually have to play a stronger side anyway. Might as well play the stronger side from the start.

Simon: I as an Arsenal fan give respect for wenger for giving our young guns a run for their money, maybe more teams should follow on from him.

Ed Woodhouse: Ashley Harrington - no one on the bench is a game changer? I think you're forgetting that one Eddie "New Pele" Nketiah is sitting there.

The 'New Pele'? Talk about sticking some pressure on the lad!

  3. 'He's not got bad players on the bench'published at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

    Tottenham 3-0 AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm proud of the group. I wanted to stay in the game and not be out of it before it started and we did that.

"Their goals we could have done better with. But to go in 0-0 at half time was great, and the fans were incredible. We've come through it and done the club proud.

"We knew that it was going to be hard to get territory. We knew it was going to come down to a set piece or a moment to do something.

"Plenty of Premier League teams have come here and conceded five. We had a few half chances, the game plan worked for 55 minutes. He made good subs. He's not got bad players on the bench!

"I did make a joke at half time that just as you get tired they'll bring on the big guns. We knew that would be the case. We gave it a real go."

  4. 'I am surprised there is no depth on the Arsenal bench'published at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on Radio 5 live

Arsene has gone into this game expecting the team out there to win it for him.

He has been in football a long time and he knows that the first 11 you put out there don't always get the result.

But he has a lot of youth on the bench and there is no one there that you would put your hat on to come on and change the game.

You can't guarantee those young players will come on and do something. I am surprised there is no real depth on the bench.

Pass, pass, pass, pass. Arsenal keep hold of the ball, but at the moment it is all sideways, lacking a spark.

We've mentioned they have none of their big names on the bench, but they do have forward Eddie Nketiah, who saved Arsenal by scoring twice when they were losing against Norwich in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in October. That finished 2-1 to Arsenal.

Reiss Nelson produces a bustling run down the left wing, but runs out of pitch as the ball goes out of play.

Assistant manager Steve Bould looks a frustrated man on the touchline. Arsene Wenger, in the director's box as he serves the first of a three-game touchline ban, is probably not too amused either.

Shrewsbury defender Mat Sadler speaks to BBC Sport: "We've had a couple of good chances, limited them to very few but now we get to go to the Olympic Stadium and go again.

"I see no reason why not. It may be a similar game again and we will look forward to it."

  10. 'We were terrible'published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

    Shrewsbury 0-0 West Ham

West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart is asked if they got out of jail today: "100%. We were terrible today and Shrewsbury were really good.

"It's a tough place to come. We didn't play well. We had three games in a week and there were opportunities for the lads, including myself.

"I can't blame fatigue. There was some terrible football played today and we lost a lot of battles.

"This is where I grew up, my home town. It gave me my opportunity in football. It's very special. It was a nice moment but in the game I wanted to win.

"We've had good results recently and I've not been playing so I have to use games like this to stake my claim. Hopefully we will have bodies back for the replay. Hopefully the home advantage will help."

  11. 'We were never at it'published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

    Shrewsbury 0-0 West Ham

West Ham manager David Moyes: "I felt Shrewsbury played well. In the first half we were never at it, we were never at it in the game really but particularly in the first half.

"I didn't have any other changes I could have made, only young boys on the bench. We put out everyone we had available today.

"If you have momentum like they do, they were strong defensively. Joe Hart made a couple of saves.

"The more opportunities we have to see the players the better. I think Josh Cullen was very good today and particularly as he's had two teeth knocked out."

  12. 'We are deflated'published at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

    Shrewsbury 0-0 West Ham

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst speaks to BBC Sport: "The players are a little bit deflated almost.

"Credit to them, they did extremely well but if we'd had just that little bit of quality and we may have got through. So it's mixed feelings really.

"But we have a replay to look forward to.

"We wanted to make it uncomfortable for West Ham. We did that for large parts and didn't give them time on the ball. Our quality could have been better but I don't want to be too critical.

"We know it will be tough [in the replay]. They will be at home, more comfortable in their own stadium."

Ross Anthony: Whatever the outcome, a first half performance from #nffc, external to be proud of

Edward Githinji: @Arsenal, external never like doing it easy. Why does every game have to feel like a final? Whatever happened to ambition and dominance?

Ashley Harrington: So annoyed at how weak a bench Wenger has taken for this game! None of them are game changers

  15. Postpublished at 16:59 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

    Nottingham Forest 2-1 Arsenal

Tottenham had a bench including Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min to call on, if they needed.

But Arsenal have none of their big names as substitutes to help them out. No Alexis Sanchez, no Mesut Ozil, no Alexandre Lacazette. How Wenger would love to be able to bring them on now.

Neil, Lewes: Can we call our new stadium The Harry Hotspur Ground?

Steve, London: RE: Dave from Manchester. Spurs shouldn’t be reliant on Kane, they have so many players of quality but they haven’t got a good alternative striker which they need. Llorente is not good enough

Kuldeep: If Kane played for Man City would Pep call his side the Harry Kane team? Probably not.
