Beram Kayal is so desperate to get it on his right foot. He can hit that first time with his left foot. He's got all the goal to aim at - surely that would have been the right option.

Adam Oldroyd: I fail to understand why players who have won nothing during their entire careers don't want to win the FA Cup ? I guess that's why they have won nothing!!

Sako is very slowly entering Palace folklore. What a guy!

Let’s hope the VAR isn’t needed, he’s probably turned of his telly if he’s got any sense.

No other option I'm afraid for Bakary Sako. he's been shut down, the angles getting together. He's got to get his shot off but never in a million is that going to beat the goalkeeper.

    Brighton 1-1 Crystal Palace

The game is alive! Brighton now close to taking the lead again as Sam Baldock sidefoots a curler against the post from Solly March's pass!

Unlucky. Brighton keep it alive, it comes to Beram Kayal, who controls neatly but then blazes it over the bar!

    So much time...

Still not much love for the game, but will the goal change that?

Could the referee please check VAR for mistaken identity, to see if there is any actual football being played somewhere tonight!

    Dougie, Doncaster

Everyone complaining, but everyone knows that survival in the Premier League is worth more. Unfortunately the FA Cup is almost dead and buried.

    Dom, Brighton

Does VAR stand for very annoying rubbish?

  9. CLOSE!published at 73 mins

    Brighton 1-1 Crystal Palace

'Sandstorm' ringing out in the away end now, or it could be 'Zombie Nation' maybe. Have to recall my clubbing days a touch.

The Palace fans are bouncing - and they almost have a second to savour as Connor Goldson makes a mess of a tackle on halfway, Bakary Sako runs on and smashes into the side netting.

Sako picks the ball up in a central area, takes one touch and smashes it towards goal. It goes in off the post, which he deserves because it's such a fine strike.

    Woof!

Out of nothing! Palace level as Bakary Sako scores a beauty. He tames the ball out of the sky with a lovely touch, runs on and hammers a shot from about 25 yards, right-footed, he cuts across the ball and it swerves viciously from left to right and thuds in off the base of the post.

In front of the packed away end, who are ignited now...

They're both still in the cup though unlike Arsenal. They may not be the greatest teams but they're better than The Hammers were against The Mighty Shrews

The worst bit about watching this game is knowing that Tony Pulis is waiting for them, so it’s only going to get worse!

    James, London

VAR used for first time tonight, in the last game of the third round. Surely that’s unfair to Brighton and Palace?

Adam Humphries: Palace are a much much much poorer team without Zaha in it. Would mark them as a shoe-in for relegation if he left in January.

Nicola Jade: I’ve just got home and switched the football on... Where are all the fans? I thought this was supposed to be a ‘Derby’...

Chance! A corner is worked short and pumped into the area, a Palace head nods it down and Tomer Hemed's follow-up is deflected just wide!

Uwe Hunemeier heads over from the following dead ball.

Hard to argue with that Wozza. FA Cup success is not a priority for many sides in the Premier League at the moment. Although the blowback from Arsenal's defeat may suggest that the Gunners should have put out a stronger side at Forest.

This is - and was always going to be - a reserve match. Premier League survival more important to both clubs. Simple as that.

The goalscorer is coming off - Davy Propper replaces Brighton captain Dale Stephens. I don't think there's an injury there.

Brighton win a corner, Connor Goldson ends up in a heap. Chance for VAR?

No, he's hurt as he collides with his own team-mate Tomer Hemed.

Not much love out there for this one...

Simon Goodall: These two want prosecuting for crimes against football. This is dreadful stuff.

Wild Billy: Turned it off. If Brighton fans can’t be bothered to watch it why should I?

A trip to Tony Pulis's Middlesbrough awaits the winners tonight. Palace are on top, possession wise, at the moment. Who is going to create anything though?
