Charlie: Mark Hughes is gone, surely. You can't throw the game at Chelsea to get something from Newcastle and then get nothing from Newcastle either.

Phil: Could be the sack for Mark Hughes in the morning.

    Stoke 0-1 Newcastle

I never really buy into the 'one game to save your job' sort of stuff as you're only ever a few defeats away from the bullet in this gig aren't you? But after Mark Hughes basically phoned in the performance against Chelsea to get everyone ready for this game he will be in major trouble if it ends like this.

Stoke have been poor again. And they're arguing amongst themselves now. To make it worse Hughes is getting soaked as well.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 16:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Burnley 0-1 Liverpool

This kid's going far - great strike from the edge of the area by Trent Alexander-Arnold but it's matched by an equally impressive save from Nick Pope.

    Ayoze Perez (73 mins)

Goal! And a big one for Mark Hughes. And not in a good way.

Stoke are caught square, Jacob Murphy puts in a lovely cross from the right and Ayoze Perez is in all sorts of space inside the area. His finish is unorthodox, a stab with the outside of the right foot, but it does the job. Right through Jack Butland.

Dave: Typical Liverpool. We'll either score another two or three goals or Burnley will equalise in injury time.

Johnny: Said before kick off I’d take a draw away to Burnley without our big players - the fact we’ve managed to go ahead against one of the defences and resilient teams in the league speaks volumes about the change in attitude Liverpool have expressed recently.

Liverpool take goalscorer Sadio Mane off and put Roberto Firmino on. Will they see this out?

  9. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle sub Dwight Gayle wants a penalty and you can see why! He's the wrong side of Kurt Zouma, who appears to lose his footing and then push the striker down.

    Newcastle unlucky there.

Oh and that was close! Jonjo Shelvey pings the free-kick wide of the top corner!

Ellis: Tell me again why Albrighton doesn’t make the England squad? Every other cross is a goal scoring opportunity.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Still we await a goal at Stoke - it's starting to open up as the home side push on in search of the opener. Kevin Wimmer is left isolated at the back and he has to chop down Ayoze Perez and go in the book.

    Leicester 2-0 Huddersfield

Leicester's two Algerians have lit up a rather gloomy afternoon with a fine finish apiece. Islam Slimani was rather a forgotten man to the neutral but he's played well today in the absence of Jamie Vardy. That dinked finish was superb.

May we see an Adrien Silva debut soon?

    Burnley 0-1 Liverpool

If Liverpool can win this it would be a big three points in their chase of Champions League football once more - they are level on points with Manchester United as it stands.

  16. goal

GOAL - Burnley 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Sadio Mane (61 mins)

    It's raining goals!

    As well as actual rain.

Jurgen Klopp is enthusiastically applauding in the technical area after Sadio Mane, who has not looked at his best recently, collects a Trent Alexander-Arnold pass in the D, turns and hammers a left-footed drive into the roof of the net.

    Fetch that!

    Islam Slimani (60 mins)

Look up the textbook definition of how to finish a one-on-one and this is one of three options.

Islam Slimani is played through on goal and he chooses option b) - chip the keeper.

    Great finish.

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on Final Score

What a finish, absolutely brilliant from Mahrez and it's exactly what was needed in that game and in all the other games as well - a moment of magic. It's great technique and he manages to get hold of it really, really well.

This game was very 0-0 in the first half, with that Ciaran Clark sitter the notable exception.

    It's still very 0-0.
