    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Charlie Adam is no stranger to the reducer but he's on the end of one from Javier Manquillo, who goes into the book. Can a set-piece bring the first goal of the afternoon?

Adam shoots from at least 30 yards - well saved in the end by Karl Darlow.

Duncan Proffitt: THAT is why Lallana should be in the squad! Saved a goal for sure!!

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle have had the better chances but Stoke are having plenty of patient build-up. They work the ball well out to the left wing but the cross is slow coming in. Hit Crouch!

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:21 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Leicester 0-0 Huddersfield

Leicester are caught horribly misshapen by a quick break and Danny Williams is in over the top for the visitors. Harry Maguire gets across and makes a challenge, sending the midfielder down. The away fans want a penalty but that looked like a shoulder charge to me. Nothing given...

Adam Lallana shows he has the engine to go with his ability as he chases back and makes a lunging last-man tackle on Johann Gudmundsson - he just about gets the ball but that was a close call.

Still no goal in the three games at 15:00 - Jamie Vardy is watching in the executive boxes and is getting plenty of camera attention at the moment.

    Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

A lovely pass from Adam Lallana frees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the Liverpool left, he cuts inside and has a dig from 20+ yards but Nick Pope is always behind it and makes the save.

Tom: The same fans bleating about Klopp rotating the squad are the same fans who’d be baying for blood if Coutinho, Salah and Firmino played and picked up a muscle strain/tear. Blinkered, no perspective.

Tim: Liverpool have got the best depth to their squad for years. Today is their first test of this.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Another good chance for Christian Atsu! I'll be charitable and put this one down to a good save though. Stoke are worryingly open as DeAndre Yedlin has oceans on the right wing, his cutback finds Atsu about eight yards out but his shot is beaten clear by Jack Butland!

Decent stop - should score though.

    Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool have not been at their best so far, not surprising without their best players. Joe Gomez is playing at left-back today by the way.

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

What was that?! Newcastle have a decent opening as the Stoke defence switch off, the ball drops to Christian Atsu 18 yards out but his strike is the living embodiment of a lack of confidence. Side-footed, first time, sliced wide, powder-puff power.

Woeful effort. It barely reached the corner flag.

    Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

Good move from Burnley sees them play in Ashley Barnes, just onside, the ball is under his feet and the angle isn't great but he still gets a shot away - always rising over the top though.

Russ: Matt (14.46), by your theory Mane and Can should not scientifically be able to play today either. Or are they super humans?

Dan: Why would Coutinho want to leave a team that's playing in the CL to go to one that he wouldn't be able to play for in said competition? Barcelona don't need him at the moment and yes, muscle recovery of 48 hours is better than 24 - no science needed.

    Leicester 0-0 Huddersfield

Huddersfield don't have Jamie Vardy's pace to worry about so are playing a high line - it works too as Islam Slimani is offside as he heads on goal. It was a good save by Jonas Lossl too, but an irrelevant one.

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle have a corner which is cleared and Stoke can counter, dangerman Xherdan Shaqiri is tracked and caught by the rapid DeAndre Yedlin and while the American wins the ball he catches the Swiss too. He needs some treatment.

    Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

It looks like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is finally getting his wish and playing centrally today for Liverpool, although in the time it takes me to type that sentence he moves to the left wing.

Huddersfield are all in red today and are right at it from the off, Joe Lolley snapping hard at the Leicester defence.

David: We are playing Perez, one of the lightest and smallest footballers ever to appear for Newcastle, as a lone striker up against the likes of Zouma? Could be a long day for Magpies fans.

Beansy: I’m worried about this Newcastle team. What’s Rafa thinking?

Dominic Solanke is crunched very early on - welcome to Burnley. Adam Lallana, sporting an extended haircut since I last saw him, then fires over. Rain hammering down.
