    Leicester 1-0 Huddersfield

At least the only goal we've had so far today is worth seeing. What a great strike that was, from another excellent Marc Albrighton cross. He can put a ball in.

    And another! No!

Shinji Okazaki has the ball in the net but he's blown up for a push on the last man.

Sam: Despite Burnley’s excellent performances this season, Liverpool given the money they’ve spent should be able to beat teams like this

    Patrick: No Salah, no party.

A GOAL. AN ACTUAL HUMAN GOAL!

Oh yes! It's a belter too. A set-piece is not properly dealt with, the ball is pinged to the far post by Marc Albrighton and Riyad Mahrez cushions a lovely side-foot volley into the far corner.

    Tremendous goal.

Dan: Both teams get zero points for a nil-nil or defeat. One point for a score draw and if it’s a score draw then one bonus point for end of game penalties. Would make football a lot more exciting and attacking.

Ash: Bonus points for amount of goals scored in a game and amount of goals conceded in a game. Be very nice to see a match end 9-8 for a change.

Tim: The League cup should for the leagues below the Premier League, creating a break of a week before Christmas and a week after New Year.

There's a football revolution happening on #bbcfootball this afternoon...

    Stoke 0-0 Newcastle

Well played Karl Darlow, the Newcastle keeper is brave to come and commandingly punch clear a good cross from Charlie Adam.

Plenty of effort out there just not much in the way of quality. Is today the day Saido Berahino nets?

    Leicester 0-0 Huddersfield

I'll take that, Leicester. Marc Albrighton stands up a cross and Islam Slimani gets a decent header in, it's right at Jonas Lossl though.

A penalty appeal, a red card, a bad miss - give us something!

  8. Postpublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

Close! Christian Fuchs hits a shot from the edge of the area which just hits Shinji Okazaki on the hip and bounces past the post.

Could easily have hit the net.

Kyle: Despite missing Coutinho and Salah with Firmino on the bench, I'm expecting Liverpool to improve in the second half and score a couple of goals.

Jake: Game of two halves. There will be plenty of goals.

At least someone is optimistic about the next 45 minutes...

Jay: Am I alone in getting irritated with people who deal in such tedious cliches as "if you're on £80k a week, you should be able to play all week including multiple games a year"? Do these people play sports at all?

Grufflow: We keep going on about players having to play three games in a week once a year and earning £80k a week but you never hear from any match official doing the same and earning 1% of that of a player.

Andrew: I'll be amazed if we don't see three 0-0 draws in these games, all 6 teams would be happy with that now.

Will: Shaping up to be the best Match of the Day of the year so far!

Ash: For those lovers of 0-0 draws have Everton vs Man Utd to look forward to, where they get to see if a bus is better than a coach at keeping the ball out of the net.

Robert: Rest isn't needed, same scheduling is. All teams should be split into pools such as A,B,C,D over Xmas and the teams from the pools play same day so all get the same rest between games.

Mike: With all the negative football perhaps the league should consider giving two points for a score draw, and only one point for goalless draw?
