    A goal!

Callum Paterson climbs highest to nod in a corner from close range.

Sunderland goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter was nowhere. He claims he was fouled, but there didn't seem a lot in it and his protests are waved away.

    Cardiff 0-0 Sunderland

We've had 135 minutes of Championship action so far during this round of fixtures and we still haven't seen a goal.

Let's find out if Cardiff or Sunderland can oblige in the second half at Cardiff City Stadium.

Sunderland have brought on Lee Cattermole for Marc Wilson in midfield. It's the home side that gets us under way again.

Chris Coleman has to be happy from a defensive side of things, Sunderland have dealt with everything that's been thrown at them such as set plays but we can improve on not giving the ball away so easily.

They can be a threat going forward, Josh Maja needs a bit more movement, service has to be better and George Honeyman needs to get in behind their defence more.

The shape has been good but we can't do that for 90 minutes. We get to the final third, the movement isn't there.

Gary Rowett isn't the only Championship manager coming up against one of his former clubs today, as Hull boss Nigel Adkins will watch his side take on Reading.

Adkins was in charge of the Royals between March 2013 and December 2014.

    Birmingham v Derby (15:00 GMT)

Gary Rowett is back on familiar turf today.

He takes his Derby side to Birmingham - the club that sacked him in December 2016.

Blues were seventh in the Championship at the time and have fallen steadily downhill ever since, although three successive wins in league and cup under Steve Cotterill have lifted the mood somewhat around St Andrew's.

Let's have a quick look ahead to a couple of Championship games kicking off at 15:00 GMT.

Derby County manager Gary Rowett found himself strongly linked with the vacancy at Premier League club Stoke City earlier this week.

However, any thoughts of him moving to the Potteries were quickly quashed with news of him signing a new contract until the summer of 2021.

"The second I took the Derby job, it was about seeing the job through," he told BBC Derby Sport. "Since I have come to the club, I have had a fantastic relationship with all the people here."

Almost a scrappy opener for Cardiff. A shot goes in from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Sunderland clear off their own line.

One added minute at the end of the first half, and it brings a booking.

Sunderland causing themselves their own problems. It was a poor pass. It could have been costly. Robbin Ruiter's got to command his box and not get blocked in.

They've got to relax, relax, relax.

Bryan Oviedo fouls Joe Ralls on the edge of the Sunderland penalty area.

Another chance for Junior Hoilett to have a strike at goal for the hosts?

You bet he does! This time goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter pushes it behind for a corner, although the replay shows the shot was heading just wide.

Joe Bennett was also stood over that Cardiff free-kick and I'm sure he's missing a "t" on the back of his shirt.

Either it's fallen off somewhere, or it's a misprint by the person in charge of that sort of thing.

    You had one job.

Well it's fair to say this match hasn't captured the imagination too much in the first 33 minutes.

That superb effort from Cardiff's Joe Ralls aside, the two goalkeepers haven't been unduly tested.

Remember when Bristol City took the lead at Etihad Stadium?

Lee Johnson's side did themselves and the EFL proud in defeat at Manchester City on Tuesday. They're 2-1 down going into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on 23 January.

It's back to league matters for the Robins today. They host Norwich City at Ashton Gate.

That's one of nine Championship matches kicking off at 15:00 GMT.

Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan started the season as Sunderland's two main striking options, but both have left the Black Cats in January.

Grabban was recalled from his loan spell by Bournemouth, while Vaughan signed for League One club Wigan.

So it's up to 19-year-old Josh Maja to lead the line today. He's worked hard and shown some neat touches, but the service to him hasn't been of the greatest quality for the most part.
