  1. Rowett's return at end of eventful weekpublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

Birmingham City v Derby County (15:00 GMT)

Gary Rowett's been a man somewhat in demand this week it would seem, warding off any hint of interest from Stoke City by committing himself to a new contract as Derby manager.

That comes in stark contrast to his treatment at former club Birmingham City little more than a year ago, when he was dismissed by Blues when in touching distance of the play-offs.

Rowett takes his promotion-chasing Derby side to an improving Birmingham this afternoon, with happy memories of a win on his first return to St Andrew's back in April 2017.

Can the Rams cap off a good week for their manager by regaining second spot from Cardiff?

    FT: Cardiff 4-0 Sunderland

Strong words from Gary Bennett. Sunderland need to improve from today's showing or else they will go down.

Right then, that's me done for now.

Time to hand over to Adam Williams and Matt Newsum - they'll take you through the rest of today's EFL matches.

  10. 'Some players threw the towel in'published at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    FT: Cardiff 4-0 Sunderland

    Gary Bennett
    Ex-Sunderland defender on BBC Newcastle

The Cardiff fans can't believe who they're playing against. It's schoolboy stuff. We're 4-0 down and it could easily be five or six.

You don't just throw the towel in when you're down to 10 men. You give the ball away and you get punished. You're 2-0 down, you don't get beat by three or four. We showed no fight.

Some players are accepting we're going down. Or don't care because they're not going to be here.

You look around and have to ask them - 'Do you want to be here?' There are some that are saying 'I'm not going to be here, I don't want to here. I don't care if we lose 3-0, 4-0 or 5-0.'

That's the question that needs to be asked.

    FT: Cardiff 4-0 Sunderland

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock tells Sky Sports: "We needed that. You could see the nervousness in the first half but, once we got the goal, the pressure came off and we enjoyed it.

"We played some really good stuff in the second half."

    Cardiff 4-0 Sunderland

Cardiff's run of four consecutive league defeats is over.

A Callum Paterson double, plus goals from Joe Ralls and Anthony Pilkington, see the Welsh side past bottom club Sunderland, who had Didier Ndong sent off early in the second half.

Neil Warnock's side are up to second in the Championship.

FOX1A: I hope Coleman is the right man for Sunderland’s sake, the fans deserve so much better, but I’ve never felt that he is. His club management career was very underwhelming.

You've probably got lucky and seen me predict something that has actually gone on to happen for probably the first time this season.

A quick online search tells me it's 309 miles and a five-hour car journey to get from Cardiff to Sunderland.

My word - that's going to be a long drive home for those Sunderland fans who have made the trip to south Wales.

    Gary Bennett
    Ex-Sunderland defender on BBC Newcastle

Would it happen in the Cardiff CIty box? No. We wouldn't have a player in that position [to capitalise].

You're looking at a team that is accepting they can't get out of the position we're in. You're looking at a beaten team, low on confidence.
