On the balance of play though, Villa are good money for their lead.

Blues have had a decent start to the second half but it's a disappointing goal to concede.

It's a great finish from Adomah and Blues have got it all to do now. They need to up the tempo.

Then Villa break and Jack Grealish does well until he's checked by Cheikh Ndoye.

A yellow card for the Birmingham midfielder for halting that counter.

Alex Haworth: 11 goals in the last 9 meetings between Aston Villa and Birmingham City. Most boring fixture in the Football League? A grand total of 2 shots on target in the first half today.

What's that I hear? A can of worms being opened? You may just spark a kerfuffle here, Alex...

A left-wing cross almost drops for Scott Hogan in the middle, after an attempted diving header from Robert Snodgrass, but Birmingham snuff out the danger.

Despite nearly conceding that quick own goal, Birmingham have started this second half better than they started the first.

Neither side makes a change at the break.

Within seconds of the start of the half, Harlee Dean inadvertently heads on to the bar as he tries to clear for Birmingham from underneath the far post. Villa so close to a quick goal there.

    Ged Scott

Blues were mostly outplayed in a mostly one-sided first half. And, quite frankly, it's hard to fathom how it was still 0-0 at the break.

But the stats don't lie. That facts are that it is still goalless, one shot against the woodwork each. And unless Villa get a bit sharper in front of goal when they attack their favoured Holte End in the second half, this could yet prove a very frustrating experience for the home fans.

There hasn't been more than one goal difference in the scorelines in the last nine meetings between these two sides.

You wouldn't bet against one goal settling it today either.

It was 0-0 when these two met at St Andrew's in October.
