Goodness me, what a strike! Scott Hogan half-volleys a stunner towards goal, from outside the box, but it smacks on to the crossbar.

Birmingham appeared to hesitate as they thought Hogan had used his hand, but the effort would have counted.

Villa's Robert Snodgrass almost gets his head on to a decent left-wing cross, having darted in to the area, but it's slightly too far in front of him.

A quarter of an hour gone then, and Villa have started like a side who have won six league games in a row.
