It is amazing to think that of the 64 goals Raheem Sterling has scored in a senior career stretching seven seasons, almost a third have come in this one.

Prior to this term, Sterling's biggest tally had been 11.

Nicolas Otamendi has been fantastic this season. Performances in the past were a little suspect last season, maybe went to ground too early, but this season he has been amazing.

Allan Thomas: Even useless Raheem Sterling couldn't miss that.

Friendly reminder Sterling has scored 20 goals this season.

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

The threat of a Leicester break is snuffed out as Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson pretty much pops up in midfield to beat Jamie Vardy to the ball. Way out his area, Ederson takes his time before calmly clipping the ball across the pitch for Kyle Walker. Cool as you like.

Manchester City maintain the pressure as Kyle Walker fizzes the ball into the box, Sergio Aguero rises to meet it but it sails just past him. Lucky escape for Leicester there.

Manchester City may not have ended up with either Alexis Sanchez or Riyad Mahrez but they arguably had just as good news by tying Kevin de Bruyne down to a longer deal. Such a brilliant player. Always capable of creating something dangerous when very little appears on.

    That didn't take long!

First real attack by Manchester City results in the opening goal as Kevin de Bruyne plays an exquisite ball behind the Leicester defence, it's such a good ball that there's two City players who have the chance to convert it. Sergio Aguero just fails to connect but Raheem Sterling doesn't at the far post, tapping home his 20th of the season.

Jamie Vardy immediately gives the Manchester City defence something to think about as he races in between the two centre-backs to try and pick up a ball over the top but he is just beaten to it.

The rain has finally stopped above Etihad Stadium, just in time for kick-off.

Anyone who has lived in Manchester for a period of time knows full well that means nothing, though, and the waterproof ponchos are staying on in the stands.

It is two years since Leicester famously won at Etihad Stadium on their way to winning the title, with Riyad Mahrez making one goal and scoring another.

But I cannot see a repeat of that result this time. Manchester City dropped a couple of points against Burnley last week, but normal service should resume here.

    Prediction: 2-0

Whatever it was that made Riyad Mahrez crave a move to Manchester at the end of the January transfer window, it cannot have been the weather here over the past few weeks - because it has been miserable for the most part.

There is more of the same today - with a depressing drizzle welcoming Mahrez (and everyone else) to Etihad Stadium. Mahrez is only here for a few hours, obviously, but this rain is not going anywhere quickly - you have to feel sorry for the stewards on evenings like this.

With cup commitments for the rest of this month, a Manchester City win would mean they sign off from the Premier League until March with a minimum 13-point lead.

Not long until the start of April, when it looks increasingly likely that Pep Guardiola's side could be in position to seal the title with a win in the Manchester derby.

Whether Riyad Mahrez would have made that more likely is a moot point, but he certainly makes a difference to Leicester and now that he's made his point needs to get back playing.

It's been a no-win situation for all - as for away teams at the Etihad since December 2016.
