Wesley Hoedt mis-controls outside the box, almost putting Roberto Firmino through on goal but he gets back to shrug the Liverpool forward off the ball and allow keeper Alex McCarthy time to gather. There's a bit of shirt tugging, but referee Martin Atkinson doesn't blow for a foul.

    Southampton look nervous.

This is how it looked at St Mary's about one hour ago, doesn't look anything like that now. There's just been a massive hailstorm. The weather can change in an instant.

The same can be said about the bottom of the Premier League table. Huddersfield started the day in it, won to move out dropping Newcastle into it. They beat Manchester United to move up to 13th and drop Southampton into the relegation zone.

That means the Saints will be determined to get the three points this afternoon but so will Liverpool. If they win they will move to within two points of second place.

  9. 'Massive at both ends of the table'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Mark Schwarzer
Ex-Chelsea keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

For both this game is massive. For Liverpool they’ll want to be in the top four and secure Champions League football. If they don’t win it opens the door for Chelsea if they get the right result tomorrow, Jurgen Klopp needs to ensure they pick up the right result.

For Southampton a point put them up to 15th and a win takes them to 13th. At both ends of the table this is massive.

  10. 'We didn't show up'published at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Phil Jones: "We didn't show up today, we started slow. They pressed us, the crowd were on their feet.

"We got control midway through the first half and should have scored but we weren't at the races, we weren't good enough, simple as.

"For whatever reason we weren't good enough. Ultimately we have conceded a sloppy goal. The lads are devastated in the dressing room."

Chris: Great result Newcastle! That has blown the top 4 race wide open.

Anon: Great result for Newcastle but it's not the 4-0 or 5-1 games against Man U I grew up watching. We've effectively parked the bus at home and nicked a goal. How the mighty have fallen!

  13. 'They fought like animals'published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on Sky Sports: "They fought like animals - I hope they take that as a compliment. The gods of football were on their side. It wasn't going to happen for us today. Newcastle gave what they have and what they don't have, that's a beautiful thing in football.

"They fought for their point, a point is what they had in mind. We made a defensive mistake and when they are in front they had only one thing in mind and gave their lives to keep a clean sheet."

Fantastic last save from Martin Dubravka down to his left, just a reaction save on his goal line.

He was fantastic today, Jonjo Shelvey was fantastic today. What a performance from Newcastle, and you have to say they deserved to win the match.

Stavros: It's times like these I wish we still had Sir Alex Ferguson. He would have made them walk back to Manchester for under-performing today.

Anon: I'd never have given a game up in the past. Man Utd would more often than not find a way to win. As soon as Newcastle scored I had no hope we'd salvage anything. How times have changed. Very sad.

Anon: Aguero alone scores in one weekend what Manchester United players collectively scored in 3 weekends Just shows the difference in the quality of players in both the Manchester clubs. At this rate, Manchester United have a long way to go.
