Southampton had more possession and more shots on goal than Liverpool but the visitors made the most of their three chances, scoring from two of them.

Liverpool looking good for a win but if Southampton can get an early goal, who knows?

John: The only way to reduce diving is if referees are willing to give penalties when players are fouled but don’t fall over.

Simon: After last week's hysteria Liverpool fans have lost what little credibility they still had when it comes to judging what should or shouldn't be a penalty.

You can’t see Southampton climbing this mountain. They look down on confidence, cut up twice through the middle too easily. Liverpool are in cruise mode. When they need to they step up gear.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané haven’t even got going. Salah influential in both goals but not breaking a sweat.

It’s incredible. Just a simple one-two. The return ball from Firmino is world class. Flicks it into Mohamed Salah’s path and the finish is cool, calm. In his form, you expect him to find the net. It is straight through the middle so massive concerns for Mauricio Pellegrino about his defence.

That second goal was harsh on Southampton, who were looking the most likely to score until then, but there's very little any side can do against moments of such individual brilliance. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah linked up superbly.

One minute of time added on at the end of 45 minutes.

James Ward-Prowse directs a header straight at Loris Karius. That's another chance for Southampton - they've had three shots on target to Liverpool's two.

Joel Matip pulls down Dusan Tadic - who has been a real livewire so far - and the Liverpool defender goes in Martin Atkinson's book. The free-kick goes over the defence and is begging for a touch from a Southampton player before Loris Karius manages to deal with it.

Tim: Why does Firmino not get booked for diving there? If he didn't fall down like a broken tree, he might have actually got the penalty. Instead he clearly attempted to deceive the referee UNNECESSARILY. That should be a yellow!

Johnny: So you’re saying because Firmino was dramatic it wasn’t a penalty? Or the ref is justified not to give a penalty? If he stays on his feet or slightly stumbles it’s never being given. Is there a criteria of how to fall over properly in order to get a penalty? Pathetic.

Good work by Dusan Tadic down by the corner flag wins Southampton a corner - their third of the game. James Ward-Prowse sends the ball in and there's a bit of a scramble before the offside flag rescues a nervous-looking Liverpool defence.

Inviting low cross across the face of goal by Andrew Robertson, but there's no Liverpool player in the box waiting for it.

Andy: Southampton's failure is not the players they sold. It was allowing Matt Le Tissier to retire.

Sadio Mane bursts through the middle but Cedric Soares gets across quickly and does just enough to put the forward off as he shoots.

Now Loris Karius does superbly to tip over James Ward-Prowse's effort that was heading just under the crossbar.

Southampton are having chances with Liverpool having really dropped their momentum after taking the lead.
