Brighton's rejected bid for Wigan midfielder Nick Powell was for £3m.

They are going to have to increase their offer for the former Manchester United player.

  2. Walcott one to watch?published at 12:47 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Simon March
    Fantasy Football Champion

Everton’s active transfer window has seen them add much needed pace and goal scoring potential in the forms of Theo Walcott and all-purpose centre forward in Cenk Tosun.

For fantasy managers, each offer much-needed options in their respective mid-price midfielder and forward brackets but Walcott, who has three career Premier League hat-tricks to his name and a reputation for goal scoring streaks is, perhaps, the one to watch.

A lot remains to be seen about how these two adapt to their new surroundings but, alongside Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Everton’s once edgeless attack now looks among the most dangerous in the league. Whether the notoriously safety-conscious Big Sam has the will or desire to unleash them all together however, is something to monitor.

Forwards were top of Sam Allardyce's January transfer window list. The Everton boss brought in Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott from Besiktas and Arsenal respectively.

Tosun has made two appearances for the Toffees while Walcott has made one - the 1-1 draw with West Brom.

Both players are still waiting for their first goal for the club, although Walcott chipped in with an assist against the Baggies.

  11. No change on Mahrez situationpublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Everton v Leicester (19:45GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

As I understand it, there has been no change in the position re Riyad Mahrez and Manchester City.

Leicester still have no intention to sell and it would take an enormous offer to even consider it.

Mahrez did not travel with the Leicester squad to Merseyside but a decision is yet to be made by manager Claude Puel about whether to select the Algerian for tonight's game at Everton.

News for Rangers fans - a new arrival, but not a major one. The Ibrox club has signed Norwich City Under-23s winger Glenn Middleton, with an additional sell-on clause related to his future development.

The 18-year-old will link up once again with Graeme Murty at the Scottish Premiership side, with Murty having coached the youngster at Under-18s level during his time with the Canaries.Middleton didn't make a senior appearance while with City, but was named among the substitutes for the Emirates FA Cup third round replay at Southampton during the 2016-17 campaign.

  14. How will Lucas do?published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Tottenham Hotspur

A string of fruitless January transfer windows look very likely to be brought to an end with Spurs’ purchase of Lucas Moura.

Lucas will bring to the squad a pace and trickery long desired by both Pochettino and fans alike. Criticism of Lucas focusses on his decision making and ability to live up to a once huge hype.

Having grown accustom to silent Januarys, sprinkled only with the occasional buy-to-loan, the majority of Tottenham fans will be quite happy with this single first team purchase. The acquisition of a more natural winger will free up Son to focus more on being a forward.

Still, some will be holding onto the hope of an upgrade in that department as Llorente joins a growing list of Harry Kane back-ups who have failed to provide.

Elsewhere the years are showing for Mousa Dembele. A younger version would would go a long way to improve Spurs’ squad.

Danny Rose’s relationship with Pochettino appears to still be quite rough. Ryan Sessegnon makes the obvious replacement but the fee may prove too much.

Finally, there have been several loan deals for youth players in the last week and that may well continue into the final hours.

  16. Everton in the marketpublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

It's bubbling up nicely at Everton with a number of deals on the go before tonight's home game with Leicester City.

Everton are now clear favourites to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala on loan while Davy Klaassen is also close to moving on loan to Napoli, following hard on the heels of Sandro Ramirez's switch to Sevilla.

Middlesbrough are also in dialogue with Everton over a loan move for Bosnian midfield Mo Besic.

Will manager Sam Allardyce spring a late surprise over and above these deals? Probably not actually.

  17. 'Strikers need to hit the ground running'published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton have needed a striker for so long that it wouldn't be a surprise to hear that it is what the workers discussed in their lunch break while designing the wheel. With Sam Baldock having spent the last four months injured, we've effectively got this far into the season with only two available forwards and only one of those - Glenn Murray - had any sort of Premier League experience. As the Premier League's second lowest scorers, we need goals to survive. Leonardo Ulloa brings proven quality on loan from Leicester and is a popular player for his first spell at the Albion.More of a gamble is the club record £14m spent on Jurgen Locadia from PSV Eindhoven. His scoring record in the Netherlands is decent enough but then so were the likes of Vincent Jannsen, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and our own Dutch disaster Elvis Manu who left the building just 18 months after being signed for £1.5m.

    Image caption,

Ulloa scored 26 goals for Brighton in his first spell

If we're going to survive, both those players need to hit the ground running. I can't see us doing much more business although Tomer Hemed may be allowed to leave given he is effectively fifth choice striker for a side who play one up front.
