  1. Ozil signs new dealpublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    BBC Sport

Mesut Ozil has ended months of speculation over his future by signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract to remain at Arsenal until the summer of 2021.

The 29-year-old playmaker becomes the highest-paid player in the club’s history - earning around £350,000 per week before tax - in a deal completed this morning.

Ozil would have been a free agent at the end of the season and was able to speak to foreign clubs from 1 January, but Arsenal tied him to fresh terms after lengthy negotiations.

An agreement was finally reached last weekend and the Germany international put pen to paper at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground earlier today.

It will potentially see Ozil’s career with the Gunners extend to eight years, having joined from Real Madrid in 2013 for a then club record £42.4m, and take him to the age of 32.

The 2014 World Cup winner has registered 36 goals in 182 appearances and is statistically among the most prolific creators of scoring opportunities in European football.

  4. Madine to Cardiff?published at 12:08 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Rob Phillips
    BBC Wales Football Correspondent

Cardiff City are closing on a deal to sign Gary Madine from Championship rivals Bolton.

The club are hopeful of adding the 27-year-old striker in a deal which could be worth up to £6m.

Former Sheffield Wednesday front runner Madine has scored ten goals for struggling Bolton this season.

Cardiff are also thought to still consider Bournemouth front runner Lewis Grabban as an option for deadline day.

The likely fee for Madine would represent the biggest transfer outlay by owner Vincent Tan since the Premier League season in 2013-14 when Cardiff paid £7.5m for Andreas Cornelius.

But Tan is set to back Warnock, who has steered Cardiff to fourth in the Championship table.

Providing they can get Madine over the line, Cardiff are hopeful he will not be the only new arrival before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

I just saw David Sullivan in a Tesco in Leicester. Potentially trying to seal a deal for Slimani. He was running late because he was trying to pay £1 up front for a meal deal and £2 at the end of the sandwich depending on the overall performance of the meal.

Newcastle United are close to the loan signing of striker Islam Slimani from Leicester City.

Another likely incoming at St James Park is the Slovakian goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka on loan from Sparta Prague.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move from Borussia Dortmund promises to shake up Arsenal’s team and a fair few fantasy football squads too.

Aubameyang brings practically Olympic-standard pace and a prolific goal-scoring record. If he can adapt to the Premier League, he may break the Kane/Aguero, Firmino template that currently dominates many a fantasy front line.

He’s expected to be priced the same as Lacazette and how those two line up together is something to monitor as there’s a good chance one will play as the central striker with the other pushed wide to fill the void left by Alexis Sanchez’s move to Man Utd earlier in the window.

A central, firing Aubameyang might prove too good a prospect to ignore.

It was a pretty quiet transfer deadline day last year.

The most expensive incoming transfer was Southampton's £14m signing of Italy striker Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli.

Burnley broke their transfer record to sign Republic of Ireland winger Robbie Brady from Norwich, while Odion Ighalo was the major exit, joining Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai for £20m from Watford.

This year, we have already seen £56m splashed out by Arsenal on striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

There will be a few more million spent when Chelsea announce the arrival of Olivier Giroud, while Riyad Mahrez may still go to Manchester City.

Stoke City fans, don’t worry if you spot Badou Ndiaye at an airport about to leave the country.

He’s off to Paris as we speak BUT he will be returning straight away.

Ndiaye arrived yesterday on a temporary visa so needs to leave the UK before coming back into the country with the correct work permit.

His people tell me the move is 98% done and he’ll be at tonight’s game.

    Mkhitaryan-Sanchez swap deal

Alexis Sanchez's mooted move to Manchester finally went through on 22 January as the Chile international left Arsenal to join Manchester United with midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading in the other direction.

Sanchez, who almost joined Manchester City last summer, signed a four-and-a-half-year deal worth £14m a year after tax.

Mkhitaryan's move to the Emirates meant Arsene Wenger finally got his man. The Arsenal boss had come close to signing the winger from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 before he opted to move to United.

Lee Murcutt: Happy with the Aubameyang signing, next move should be to swap Giroud for Luiz.

JDM: Good news but do we still have to get rid of Giroud? Based on what we’ve seen so far, does anyone want Lacazette?

Barry Gavin: Aubameyang is a great, but risky signing for Arsenal. Good to see someone with a bit of attitude arrive instead of another 'Yes Mr. Wenger' man. Can he play centre-back though?

Alex: Arsenal signing Aubameyang is papering over cracks. Incredible signing, yes, but we still have a shoddy defence. Also, when are we going to replace Vieira?

  16. Quiet day expected at Manchester Unitedpublished at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    BBC Sport

After signing Alexis Sanchez last week, it is shaping up to be a quiet day at Manchester United.

There is the potential for a player to leave - Netherlands international Daley Blind has been linked with Roma - but there is no guarantee that is going to happen.

Blind has reported to United's Carrington training ground for treatment on an ankle injury that will keep him out of tonight's game at Tottenham.

  17. Powell move out of the bluepublished at 11:42 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Brighton & Hove Albion

We didn't expect to do any business today so a bid for Nick Powell has come a little bit out of the blue.

Having said that, we are lacking numbers in central midfield with Steve Sidwell out for the season and Oliver Norwood on loan at Fulham having not contributed much during his time at Brighton bar bleaching his hair to look like Shirley from EastEnders. Powell's having a good season at Wigan and he was highly thought of by Sir Alex Ferguson. I'm not sure he would be much more than fourth choice at the moment given how loyal Chris Hughton has been to Dale Stephens and Davy Propper but - dare I say it - he would be a good addition for a promotion push from the Championship next season if the worst comes to pass Scott McCarthy, WeAreBrighton.com

    BBC Sport

Wigan have turned down an undisclosed bid from Brighton for midfielder Nick Powell.

They don't want to sell so any deal has to make sense for club and player.

Meanwhile, Everton are thought to be in pole position to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala.

The Frenchman has been speaking to them this morning but nothing has been agreed.

West Ham and Newcastle still in the frame but La Liga side Valencia are no longer interested.

  20. Can Pochettino bring out the best in Lucas?published at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Lucas MouraImage source, Getty Images

Lucas Moura has been in London since the end of last week and he has met Daniel Levy and other people at Tottenham. He didn't want to leave Paris, he had a baby not long ago and has many close friends at PSG but he knows that he has to go ashe is not playing.

He has been forced out by PSG. At 25, Spurs realise that £25m for a player with his potential is pretty cheap.

He has shown at times that he has a lot of talent. He needs consistency and he needs a manager who can help him improve, something Unai Emery and Laurent Blanc have not been able to do at PSG.

Mauricio Pochettino may be the perfect guy for him right now. He has the pace, he has the skill but he is going to get kicked a lot. If he can cope with the aggression he will be fine.
