Tony Pulis' sides might not be renowned for attacking but Middlesbrough haven't messed around this afternoon.

Right-back Ryan Shotton crosses for centre-back Daniel Ayala to stab in at the back post - and it wasn't from even a corner.

Barnsley are deep in the relegation mire.

    Cardiff v Birmingham (15:00 GMT)

Cardiff celebrate a goalImage source, PA

Is there any stopping Cardiff City at the moment?

Tuesday's 2-1 win over Barnsley was their fifth league victory in a row and they haven't lost a Championship fixture since New Year's Day.

Today they face a Birmingham side still adjusting to life under new management as Garry Monk returns to Wales, where he managed the Bluebirds' arch-rivals Swansea.

Bottom sides Sunderland and Burton will stay in the drop zone even if they win today, though Garry Monk's Birmingham could move out of the bottom three at the expense of Barnsley if results go their way.

Hull, Bolton, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, in 17th, are not out of the mire yet either, with none of the bottom nine able to win in their past two matches.

Surely someone will take this relegation battle by the scruff of the neck today?

  10. League Two previewpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

The top two in League Two meet today, as leaders Luton host in-form Accrington.

Stanley have won 10 of their past 12 matches to fly into the automatic promotion spots and they'll go top if they win at Kenilworth Road.

At the bottom, new Grimsby manager Michael Jolley takes charge of a home match for the first time - fellow strugglers Port Vale are the visitors to Blundell Park.

There aren't too many Championship forwards in better form that Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbia international, who joined on loan from Newcastle in January, has scored five goals in his past four appearances for the west London club.

In-form Fulham are chasing a top-two spot and start today's game at Preston five points behind second-placed Cardiff.

  12. Postpublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

Talking of the battle for the play-offs we probably have six sides fighting for the final two spots.

Out-of-form Derby don't play until tomorrow and could find themselves just a point above seventh place tonight, while Bristol City have struggled for consistency since the turn of the year.

On the other hand pre-season favourites Middlesbrough have finally found their feet, while sides as far down as Brentford will still believe they have a chance of snatching that coveted sixth spot.

These are worrying times to be a Sunderland fan. The club are bottom of the Championship table and four points from safety with 10 matches remaining.

The Black Cats lost 3-0 to Aston Villa on Tuesday but were helped by results elsewhere going in their favour - something that hasn't escape the notice of manager Chris Coleman.

"Nobody has taken it by the scruff of the neck," Coleman told BBC Newcastle. "The only saving grace is that everybody else keeps losing. The teams around us are giving us a chance.

"We've got 10 games and we can choose our fate. We can go out with a whimper and never forget it. Or we can go out with a fight."

Lee Peltier and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing come in for second-placed Cardiff City they take on struggling Birmingham City - Blues remain unchanged from the side that lost 1-0 at home to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Boro make no changes from the side that won at St Andrew's, but their opponents Barnsley make five changes as Dimitri Cavare, Adam Jackson, Daniel Pinillos, Christoph Knasmullner and Ryan Hedges all get a chance.

Floyd Ayite replaces Sheyi Ojo in the Fulham line-up as they aim to go third with victory at Preston - North End make two changes as Sean Maguire and Daniel Johnson come in to replace Billy Bodin and Paul Gallagher.

Eros Pisano, Nathan Baker and Lloyd Kelly all come in for Bristol City as they aim to get back into the play-off places with a win over Burton Albion - the struggling Brewers make four changes.

Young goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell keeps his place in the Leeds United side for their trip to Reading. Leeds make six changes with Eunan O'Kane and Caleb Ekuban among the names coming in, while under-pressure Jaap Stam makes three changes to his Reading side.

Swindon Town v Cheltenham Town (15:00 GMT)

You probably know him for scoring freakishly-long-range screamers, but today Swindon's Matt Taylor adds 'interim manager' to his CV.

The former Portsmouth midfielder takes caretaker charge of the League Two play-off hopefuls as they host Cheltenham Town, following David Flitcroft's departure to promotion rivals Mansfield.

But how long might 36-year-old Taylor be in charge for?

"The idea is that I take the game on Saturday and we'll have a conversation after that," he told BBC Wiltshire.

"This is a great opportunity for me to gain experience.

"I've tried to be honest and authentic with the players, who are ultimately still my teammates, albeit I've got a slightly different role now. The boys have responded really well. I couldn't have asked for more."
