Hull City fought back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 and move six points clear of the Championship relegation places, in a match featuring four penalties.

Hull head coach Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I thought the players were magnificent - we started the game ever so well.

"They've responded in the right manner, they were spot on.

"There's a togetherness and spirit about everybody and we just need to keep doing the basics well, to an elite level all the time."

Bottom club Sunderland's winless run stretched to nine games as Eberechi Eze's first goal for Queens Park Rangers saw off the Black Cats, who had keeper Jason Steele sent off.

Sunderland boss Chris Coleman told BBC Radio Newcastle:

"I've been here 21 games and that's five games where we've been down to 10 men.

"You can see on everybody's face 'here we go again' and people lose confidence then because they think we're never gonna get away from where we are.

"We conceded but didn't fold - the one thing the team showed today I thought was a bit of personality.

"We were gritty and had a go but we're lacking confidence clearly at both ends of the pitch, where it matters."

Patrick Bamford continued his prolific scoring form as promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough beat struggling Barnsley to move level on points with fifth-placed Derby.

Middlesbrough midfielder Jonny Howson told BBC Tees:

"I think the bottom line is the three points - that was the message that we'd spoken about, certainly before the game.

"After the two wins in the week it was a case of following it up and not letting it slip.

"OK we went through a couple of sticky periods, if you like, but there was always still a long way to go.

"We still can achieve what we wanted at the start of the season - it's still in our hands and we'll see what happens."

It's a fabulous atmosphere inside Villa Park - and there's a typically lively derby to help keep the crowd noise at its most raucous.

Villa's lead was deserved for a bright start by the hosts, whereas Wolves' equaliser did rather come out of the blue.

But otherwise, the two well-matched sides are hard to separate. Even down to their respective goals... both scrappy, both down to poor defensive clearances and both put away from just a yard out.

Emily_Ballistic: This is the one of the most contested matches I've seen. Wolves have seemed to dominated in terms of possession, but Villa just keep going back in to attack. Can't wait for the second half.

A exciting first half comes to an end all square.

For a game high on quality it has had two relatively scrappy goals - Albert Adomah turning in from close range after a defensive mistake to put Villa ahead.

Diogo Jota levelled soon afterwards for Wolves, Matt Doherty's wonderful ball causing confusion at the back and Jota putting the loose ball away.
