England were let off there. Initially Hasret Kayikci just took the wrong option.

And there's some good play from Germany now. What a great ball through to Alexandra Popp you don't often see her miss like that.

  2. Germany with the early pressurepublished at 14 mins

    Germany women 0-0 England women

Germany look dangerous at the moment and they've got a corner.

Verena Faisst whips it in and Chamberlain punches it away to clear the danger.

There's a swing-and-miss in the box and eventually the ball goes out of play. Phew.

  3. 'Germany produce player after player'published at 11 mins

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC Red Button

Germany just seem to produce player after player. When one retires another just comes in and that's what England are starting to do now.

A lot of these players will go into schools and go into clubs and there's a lot more girls playing football than when I started many moons ago.

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 10 mins

    Germany women 0-0 England women

Ellen White goes down in the penalty area and there are shouts for a spot-kick!

She backs into the area with the ball at her feet and Lena Goessling is leaning right over her and looks to be holding on to her.

The referee points for a goal kick though and there is little protest from White.

  6. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Germany women 0-0 England women

Germany bagging a lot of the early possession so far and Hasret Kayikci has a shot from just inside the area.

It's a soft effort though and Siobhan Chamberlain easily gathers.

  7. 'Never read social media'published at 6 mins

    Germany women 0-0 England women

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC Red Button

Fran Kirby was one of the best players on the pitch against France. She was unbelievable, every time she got the ball something looked like it was going to happen.

I was surprised by some of the comments on social media. As a player you should never read it.

  8. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Germany women 0-0 England women

An early chance for England as Fran Kirby breaks down the left, looking for Ellen White in the centre. The ball just falls behind her though and Germany clear.

  9. "A giant floating silver souffle"published at 3 mins

    Germany women 0-0 England women

Tonight’s game is being played at the Red Bull Arena, which is of course the home of MLS side New York Red Bulls, where Thierry Henry spent four years post-Arsenal and Barcelona.

With a capacity of 25,000, it’s the third-largest football-specific (or should I say soccer?) stadium in the US.

From the outside, it’s been described as a “giant floating silver souffle”. See it? Kind of...

  10. 'They were ruthless against France'published at 2 mins

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC Red Button

England have to do what they did against France. They were excellent, the way they moved the ball was really sharp but I was really impressed with how clinical they were. They were ruthless.

When you play the best teams in the world you have to be clinical and that's what they were against France. How will Germany respond to losing to America?

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    Germany women 0-0 England women

We're underway as England kick us off!

It's a beautifully sunny day in New Jersey - a far cry to the conditions the Lionesses experienced in Ohio three days ago.

  12. All to play forpublished at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2018

A win here for England would propel them to the top of the SheBelieves Cup table with one game to play.

USA and France could only draw 1-1 earlier today. Mallory Pugh gave the hosts the lead on 35 minutes before Eugénie Le Sommer equalised just three minutes later.

    Game on.

  13. "It's a step up"published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2018

Neville is only too aware of the challenge that faces his Lionesses over the next 90 minutes. But his mantra is crystal clear – if England are to become the best side in the world, Germany are a hurdle they must overcome.

"It's a step up from what we faced against France and we have a massive challenge ahead of us," he said.

"I said to the players this morning that if we want to win World Cups, we have to beat teams like Germany and the USA and send a statement out there.

"We've now got to start beating the best teams in the world regularly."

Phil Neville has made five changes to the side that started against France on Thursday.

Abbie McManus makes her first start in a Lionesses shirt having made her senior debut against France when she came on for the injured Anita Asante.

Siobhan Chamberlain starts in goal for her 50th cap, with Fara Williams, Ellen White and Mel Lawley also coming in.

England XI: Chamberlain, Stokes, Bright, McManus, Bronze, Williams, Kirby, Scott, Duggan, White, Lawley

  15. Previous meetingspublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2018

England’s last victory over Germany saw them clinch the bronze medal at the Women’s World Cup in 2015.

On that occasion, Fara Williams’ extra-time penalty ensured the Lionesses’ first win over the Germans in 31 years.

Last year’s SheBelieves Cup marked the last meeting between the two sides. Germany were the victors on that occasion almost exactly 365 days ago, with Anja Mittag scoring the only goal of the game just before half-time.

Germany women v England women (20:00 GMT)

But Germany are a different kettle of fish altogether.

Olympic gold medallists. Two-time World Cup winners. Eight-time European champions. One of the most dominant international sides in the women’s game.

But Steffi Jones’ team haven’t got their SheBelieves Cup campaign off to the best start across the pond, losing 1-0 to hosts USA in their opening match.

  17. Opening victorypublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2018

Germany women v England women (20:00 GMT)

England will come into tonight’s game against Germany brimming with confidence after their sublime 4-1 win over France on Thursday.

Toni Duggan, Jill Scott and Jodie Taylor all found the back of the net before the first half was even out, with Fran Kirby adding a fourth after the break. Gaetane Thiney’s 77th-minute strike proved merely a consolation for the French.

So far, so good for Phil Neville’s Lionesses reign.

One match played, one match won. And a dominant victory at that.
