    Hungary 0-1 Scotland

Redemption for Charlie Mulgrew? The captain, who missed that first-half penalty, has time to stride forward and have a shot but it's on his weaker right foot and he skies it over from 20 yards.

  2. Postpublished at 52 mins

    Hungary 0-1 Scotland

Scotland are playing with their tails up now and Ryan Fraser is getting involved more as an attacking threat down the right.

The ball in was brilliant from Ryan Fraser, he whipped the life out of it. Matt Phillips did well to control the shot, it's a really good goal for Scotland!

    Matt Phillips

Matt Phillips might not be a natural striker but the big West Brom winger shows great quality to arrive at the right time to meet Ryan Fraser's deflected cross and calmly tucks it away with a side-foot finish.

    That's his first international goal.

    Hungary 0-0 Scotland

Giant Hungary striker Adam Szalai goes down in dramatic fashion and is promptly booked for his woeful play-acting - or it might have been for giving the ref an ear-bashing. Either way, not his finest moment.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Hungary 0-0 Scotland

We're up and running again. A couple of changes for the home side, same again for Alex McLeish's men.

It was a penalty, it was a really clumsy challenge, he just barged into Ryan Fraser.

I fancied Charlie Mulgrew to score it, to be honest he struck the ball well but it was a comfortable save. He guessed right and was right behind it.

We've given up that chance. I must say that Hungary are poor. If Scotland played like that at home you would be getting booed off the park.

How many times have they had a go at the Scotland back three?

A gift of a chance to get some confidence flowing and just when you think something positive is about to happen, it’s ripped away.

Charlie Mulgrew’s penalty was well struck but it was a fabulous save from Peter Gulacsi. Replays suggest Ryan Fraser was outside the box when he was brought down so maybe justice was done.

Scotland have probably edged it in the first half but need to generate more sustained pressure and efforts on target.

Defensively, there have been one or two moments that better sides might punish. It’s better than Costa Rica but there’s room for much more.

  10. Formation holding Scotland back?published at 19:57 British Summer Time 27 March 2018

There's a lot more energy and legs and athleticism and that's definitely helped the team. Jack Hendry has acquitted himself well at the back. I just don't think this formation is one that suits this side.

I think we've created enough chances. Overall, I think we can be quite pleased. Keep it going and it should be enough to get the win.

This is dire from Scotland. And what’s wrong with Robertson? Even when he gets the ball in space he’s not interested.

It's been a decent first half from Scotland. A definite improvement from Friday. We definitely should be in the lead.

  14. HALF-TIME Hungary 0-0 Scotlandpublished at 45+1 mins

All square in Budapest. It's not been much of a game on a wretched pitch but Scotland have wasted a golden chance, with Charlie Mulgrew's penalty saved.

  15. CLOSE!published at 45 mins

    Hungary 0-0 Scotland

The hosts are having a good spell here as a Richard Guzmics header from a corner looks like it might be sneaking in but Andy Robertson, guarding the near post, is ice cool as he takes a touch before shuffling the ball off to safety.

  16. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Hungary 0-0 Scotland

It's all about the bobbly pitch as Scott McKenna pops up on the left and thunders in a low cross that the home defence can't deal with. James Forrest does connect in a good position but the winger can't control his first-time effort and it lands in the arms of keeper Peter Gulacsi.

  17. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Hungary 0-0 Scotland

Callum McGregor is booked for a late tackle on Adam Szalai. Balazs Dzsudzsak whips it into the mixer and big Szalai powers a header narrowly wide - from an offside position it turns out.

We'll take it! It's come from nothing, there's definite contact.

We got lucky, but that's the way it's going for us right now. We didn't have a first-choice striker on the pitch, we can't buy a goal right now and when we do get a penalty it's a fantastic save.

  20. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 39 mins

Scotland skipper Charlie Mulgrew trots up and his effort from the spot is pushed away by Peter Gulacsi.
