Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal on BBC Radio 5 Live: "1964 is a long time ago, I know because I was born in '65! Swansea have now made the best path in the Cup since then so it's a little part of history and we are happy about that. I'm very proud of my players.

"We made some changes but the team still competed. We expected a lot from Sheffield Wednesday. It's not easy to break their defensive organisation and they are a threat on the counter-attack. The first half was like that.

"At the break we weren't happy with the score. We needed more energy and intensity, so we brought on Martin OIsson and Jordan Ayew and they had a big impact. Two or three minutes into the second half I thought things would change. After that we shut the doors and the windows and I think we deserved the win, but Sheffield Wednesday did well in the two games."

Jel: I know there is the argument that most teams heights and/or success comes in 'cycles', but when are Sheffield Wednesday going to pull out their finger and return to being a top 10 team in the top flight?

Talks to introduce a winter break from February 2020 are continuing between The Football Association, English Football League and Premier League.

The first annual two-week interval would be scheduled from the 2019-20 season and take place in the early part of the month, it has been proposed.

As a consequence, the fifth round of the FA Cup would take place in midweek and there would be no replays.

Premier League clubs would have at least 13 days without a match.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay: “I think the first half was in the balance between the two teams, we had two or three chances to score.

“In the second half we could not give the pressure we like to do and Swansea scored the goal and then it was very difficult to come back into the game.

“We tried after the goal from Swansea, we put on an extra striker, but we could not get in behind because Swansea are strong defensively. They showed good quality.”

• Swansea have reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1964 - when they eventually got knocked out in the semi-finals in their history.
• They have now won six successive home games in all competitions for the first time since December 2007.

• This was the 10th match that Jordan Ayew had scored for Swansea and they are yet to lose a game he has netted in (W8 D2 L0).
• Ayew’s goal was Swansea City’s first shot on target in the match (54:06) and came just nine minutes and six seconds after he came off the bench.
• Nathan Dyer has scored three goals this month in the FA Cup (two vs Notts County, one tonight) – it’s the first time he’s scored as many as three goals in a single month since August 2014.

Ian Edwards: People need to stop being so harsh on Sheffield Wednesday, most of their first team 11 are out injured. They've practically played the whole season with the second and third string players!

John Smith: It is mad that Nathan Dyer went on loan to Leicester from Swansea and won the league. Then just went back to Swansea. He must sometimes think he dreamed it.

More from Nathan Dyer on BBC One: "It's been good for us to have close games back to back. All the draws and wins have helped us build up the confidence we need and that has helped us going into the Premier League."

Swansea goalscorer Nathan Dyer speaking to BBC One: "It was hard at their place so we knew it'd be tough. They're defensively strong so we had to get make runs in behind. It took a while but we managed to do it today.

"Tammy Abraham commits players and everyone else can exploit those spaces. He's been doing it all season and it's good to have a player like that, who also has a goal threat. He's a young boy with tons of ability.

"He should have put me in in the first half, I let him know about that! But he had the awarenes to pick me out in the second. I got the low strike on target and thankfully it went in."

Rochdale manager Keith Hill says his team must act "like a Premier League side" in their FA Cup fifth-round replay against Tottenham which takes place at Wembley tomorrow.

The League One club scored in added time to draw 2-2 with Mauricio Pochettino's side earlier this month.

Rochdale are bottom of the third tier, while Spurs are fourth in the Premier League - 63 places higher.

"We will relish playing on the best surface in England. We're trying to emulate teams like Spurs," said Hill.

"The lads have to treat it to a certain degree like we're a Premier League side playing against Tottenham. We're going to have to be brave, take our opportunities and have a little bit of luck."

Despite the small crowd and lack of occasion tonight this is a really significant win for Swansea. They haven't reached the last eight of the FA Cup for 54 yearsand they're now one game from Wembley. It's also their sixth successive home victory and they haven't done that since 2007.

Jordan Ayew has been man of the match...and he's only played half of it! He changed the game, he suddenly made Sheffield Wednesday's back five look extremely nervous. No-one came close in the first half. You can just see his quality

It will come as no surprise to anyone that Jordan Ayew has been named Man of the Match. His introduction at half time changed Swansea's dynamic and it was his goal which broke the deadlock.

He has been excellent on the ball and the one player who has looked to create things for Swansea.
