  1. Swans looking to bounce backpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    Brighton 4-1 Swansea

All eyes will be on Swansea tonight and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from that thrashing against Brighton on the weekend.

Swansea's relegation woes increased and the 4-1 result did not flatter Brighton at all after yet another uninspiring display from Carlos Carvalhal's team.

  2. Stat of the daypublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

Sheffield Wednesday haven’t beaten top-flight opposition in the FA Cup since their 1993 semi-final win over Sheffield United – a run of 18 games (D6, L12).

    ...Ouch.

  3. An amenable bosspublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Republic of Ireland winger on 5 Live

"I see Carlos Carvalhal as a manager that brings a lot of positivity. He comes across brilliantly in the media, he’s very amenable and the fans have warmed to him straight away. That could have a knock-on effect for Swansea through the rest of the season.

“It was the same at Sheffield Wednesday. You could see in the first game how much they respected him for what he'd done while at the club.”

Two former Wales strikers are tipping victory for the home side tonight, as they attempt to make the last eight of the FA Cup for the first time since 1964.

"I think this is a huge chance for Swansea," Five Live pundit John Hartson told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"They've already put so much into the FA Cup just to get to this stage and I would pick a strong team, the fans will want this run to keep going.

"I think Swansea should have enough tonight and expect them to be positive."

Those sentiments are echoed by Hartson's former Wales teammate Iwan Roberts, who is working for BBC Radio Cymru tonight.

"I just expect Swansea to have too much tonight, I can see them winning but it will not be easy.

"I will predict 2-0 to the Swans."

  6. Mawson not in squadpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

Alfie Mawson, who pulled out of the first game against Sheffield Wednesday after “locking” his knee during the warm-up, missed a chance to impress watching England boss Gareth Southgate.

He recovered to play in the 4-1 defeat against Brighton but has been left out of the squad for tonight's replay.

Carvalhal said Mawson was “one of the best” centre backs in the Premier League last week.

Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal speaking to Radio 5 Live: “We have to protect some players with small injuries, that’s why we’ve made five changes. But we must play and respect the competition.

“We’ve named a good side and we’ll try to go into the next round. It won’t be easy because Sheffield Wednesday have good players and a good team. They will want to win as well so we have to be professionals and try to do our job.”

  9. Priorities for Swanseapublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

Carlos Carvalhal has made his feelings clear exactly where the FA Cup ranks in terms of priorities.

“As a manager it would be fantastic to win a trophy but I’m not selfish. Our priority is staying in the Premier League,” he said.

Swansea are currently 18th in the table, seven points off the bottom and six points off the top 10.

It's a huge battle to avoid the drop and with this being Swansea's third FA cup replay this year, will it be a blessing in disguise to drop out of the competition in the fifth round?

Or is a successful cup run just what Swansea need to pull them out of the depths of the Premier League's relegation zone?

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

Jos Luhukay was not in good spirits following his side's defeat against Aston Villa on the weekend and he stated '16 players were unavailable.'

    The Championship club are without several players again this evening;

Barry Bannan (hip), Steven Fletcher (knee), Fernando Forestieri (knee), Gary Hooper (hernia), Sam Hutchinson (hernia), Kieran Lee (hip), Tom Lees (groin), Marco Matias (unspecified), Keiren Westwood (groin), Joost van Aken (hamstring).

Sean Clare, Jack Stobbs and Jordan Thorniley are all cup-tied too.

There are none of Carlos Carvalhal's infamous analogies in his pre-match programme notes. He means business.

"It is important now that we keep building and, hopefully, secure our place in the quarter-finals for the first time in over 50 years.

"Going back to Hillsborough was very emotional for me and I must say thank you to Sheffield Wednesday for the way they welcomed me back.

"They all treated me very well and this is a part of football I love."

  15. Crossing paths againpublished at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

Carlos Carvalhal has personal history with Sheffield Wednesday and he even described his visit to Hillsborough as 'returning home'.

The Swansea boss was in charge of Sheffield Wednesday for two-and-a-half years before leaving through mutual consent in December 2017.

The 52-year-old left with the club 15th in the Championship table, having guided them to the play-offs in the previous two seasons.

They now sit in 17th place under new manager Jos Luhukay - formerly of Hertha Berlin - but who will come out on top this evening?

Carlos Carvalhal wanted a penalty shoot-out instead of another FA Cup replay but I think there's more adventurous ways to decide a game of football.

What about a 100m race between each team's fastest player? Or a cross-bar challenge involving the coaches.

I want your suggestions. What would make an exciting way to decide a drawn FA Cup match?

  19. 'We should go to penalties'published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

Swansea v Sheffield Wednesday (20:05 GMT)

Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal said both managers should have been given the option of a penalty shootout rather than a replay after the draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Tonight's game is the third replay in as many FA Cup rounds for Swansea in this season's competition .

"It's a score nobody wants," Carvalhal told BT Sport immediately after the game.

"Maybe in the future, if the managers and referee agree after the first game we can go to penalties, we can finish the game today.

"I believe if you had asked us and the Sheffield Wednesday manager, we'd have gone to penalties."
