  1. Asante injured...published at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

Concern here for Anita Asante. She is down and in pain. It looks like she twisted her knee...

    (Toni Duggan)

Forget what I said about England almost making the perfect start - they have made it now...

Fran Kirby spots Toni Duggan in space on the left of the France area and Duggan makes no mistake, sweeping the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. A brilliant finish.

  3. This ground rocks... just not todaypublished at 5 mins

Other than hosting sporting events the MAPFRE Stadium (I didn't cap it up before, sorry) is also well known for holding the annual Rock on the Range festival.

Slipknot, Alice in Chains, Guns N'Roses, Marilyn Manson, Megadeth have all played the venue in recent times though it sounds more suitable for another former England full-back Stuart Pearce, than current Lionesses boss Phil Neville.

Those events are usually summer sell-out's.....not quite the wind and rain lashed accompaniment today. The ground is pretty empty at the moment, but more fans are expected to turn up to see the United States play Germany later.

Positive play from Fran Kirby but she will be disappointed with her finish

France are in a transition phase they are trying with different styles. It was difficult to predict their team, but we know they will be technical and difficult to play.

  6. Almost the perfect start...published at 2 mins

    England women 0-0 France women

I think the weather is going to play a big part in this game - the wind is so strong... hang on, here come England.

France cannot clear, partly because of the wind, and Fran Kirby bursts into the box down the left and fires in a shot from a tight angle, that is deflected a few inches wide. Almost the perfect start. Almost.

Right then, here we go. France get the SheBelieves Cup - and Phil Neville's England reign - officially started.

Its a tough one for him everything that Phil Neville does will be scrutinised.

These players and Neville really want to win they have the belief which he has put that into the side.

  9. Will lightning strike twice?published at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

Apparently there is the threat of lightning in Ohio later - and Phil Neville will be hoping it strikes twice.

England beat France for the first time in 43 years when they met in the quarter-finals of Euro 2017 last summer - with Jodie Taylor scoring the winner. A repeat resul here would be most welcome.

  10. 'It's my time to give back'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

Casey Stoney speaking to BBC Sport on joining the England backroom staff: "I'm really excited about the next chapter and journey of my career - joining Phil Neville's coaching staff with England.

"This is a game I have loved ever since being a little girl and the thought of not playing, not being in that changing room with my teammates is tough but for me it's for the right reasons and at the right time.

"I will look back with so many fond memories. Football has made me the person I am today. It's my time to give back now."

Listening to Phil Neville’s interviews and speaking to the players working under him, it’s all positive. He wants to take England to the next level. They’re really close and those small margins that Lucy Bronze has talked about, that’s what he can bring and that could take England from third to first, like he has said.

Some people want me to lose games - Neville

Phil Neville says he wants to see England playing with more flair but goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis says the biggest shift has to be a change in mentality - and think Neville is the right man for the job.

Speaking in her column on the BBC Sport website, Brown-Finnis said: "Going from being the third-best team in the world to the best is a tiny step in some ways because there are only two teams above us.

"The difference in quality between our best players and theirs is minimal, if it exists at all.

"But the US know they are winners, and so do Germany. We have not won anything, ever.

"We want to change that, which is why I think it is a huge positive to have Neville in charge.

"His task, in a nutshell, is to do that with a shift in mentality - to transform the England side from a team of world-class players to a team of world-class players who win trophies.

"That is the biggest change this team needs and Neville can implement it, because he has lived and breathed the approach we will need throughout his whole career."

Phil Neville makes five changes to the England team that thrashed Kazakhstan 5-0 in their World Cup qualifying campaign in November.

Chelsea defender Anita Asante returns after last being called up in 2015, while Demi Stokes, Millie Bright, Fran Kirby and Barcelona forward Toni Duggan also start.

And with regular captain Steph Houghton out injured, Lucy Bronze captains the Lionesses.

England XI: Bardsley, Bronze, Asante, Bright, Stokes; Parris, Walsh, Scott, Duggan; Taylor, Kirby

The next Women's World Cup starts in Paris, France on 7 June, 2019 - 464 days away.

England, who are currently ranked third in the world, want to be in the final - also in Paris - on 7 July, and win it, says Phil Neville. That journey begins here.

And, as a way of testing his team against the best on the planet, the SheBelieves Cup seems like a decent place to start....
