Now, I'm all for keepers showing confidence in their own penalty box but.. Jordan Pickford needs to calm down a little.

After confidently dealing with a John Stones backpass almost along his goal-line, the England keeper's adrenalin is still pumping as he charges out to meet a corner, only to miss the ball as Bas Dost heads over.

Then seconds later Pickford charged down by the big Dutch striker and is lucky to escape with a goal-kick.

With that goal Olivier Giroud moved level with Jean-Pierre Papin and Just Fontaine as the joint fifth top scorer for France on 30 goals. Fontaine scored 13 in six games at the 1958 World Cup finals in Sweden.

Giroud is also one behind Zinedine Zidane.

    Exalted company indeed.

Just another 21 needed to catch Thierry Henry on 51 mind.

England are sustaining attacks. Even if they lose possession, they're on it. They're building momentum until that chance finally comes.

Up to now, Kyle Walker has played well, as has Kieran Trippier. Gareth Southgate's decision has worked well so far.

That's the final ball we've been looking for! Jesse Lingard slices open the Dutch defence with a piercing throughball that Raheem Sterling scampers after, only to see Dutch keeper Jeroen Zoet charge into his line of vision. Zoet takes man and ball to avert the danger.

    Netherlands 0-0 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The AmsterdamArena

England are having a really good spell, looking more composed and confident on the ball than the Netherlands - it is a period that brought Ronald Koeman into his technical area for the first time to show his concern.

Just needs some end product to all England's decent approach work.

Chirag Atrey: Crossing has been woeful so far. Hard to see how Kane scores any headers at all with this sort of service

James Ballantyne: Fair to say, both teams aren't as good as their 1996 versions.

I can't remember a sharper start to a game than England have had in this one in a long, long time.

They haven't scored yet but they look confident. I'm quietly surprised.

England are winning the ball back quickly when they lose possession, the Dutch are showing why they aren't going to Russia this summer...

Just the final ball lacking for Gareth Southgate's men so far.

France lead - Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud taps in after a huge fumble from former Arsenal team-mate David Ospina.

Ooooh, and there it is (almost). Kieran Trippier swings in a free-kick from the left flank, Jordan Henderson flicks on and Marcus Rashford can't reach it with an outstretched size nine.

England are still marginally on top, without creating a clear sighter of the home goal. I feel it's coming though...

  12. 'Much better'published at 30 mins

    Netherlands 0-0 England

    Danny Mills

Much better from England. It's sharp, they're putting pressure on the Dutch players and England's defence are closing down to get the ball back.

In the summer, I'd like to see Jack Wilshere and Adam Lallana in there, sliding the ball through to Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling.

England are being very patient in their build up, occasionally switching gears to open up the Dutch defence. They do that twice in quick succession with some neat football, Kieran Trippier overhitting a cross and then Raheem Sterling's driving run forcing a corner.

Harry Maguire gets on the end of the set-piece but can't turn it into a meaningful effort at goal.

Half a chance for the Dutch as Ronald Koeman's men try to up the tempo. A curling cross from the left is aimed for Quincy Promes, but Danny Rose uses his muscle to hold off the winger as Jordan Pickford comes to collect.

    Gary Flintoff

Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has spent almost the entire evening sat on the bench tonight. His opposite number Gareth Southgate is stood up inside the England technical area. I am not sure whether either are enjoying this?

All gone slightly flat at the moment. The crowd are quiet too, they're probably feeling a bit drained after that pre-match rave.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Italy paid tribute to the late Davide Astori as they faced Argentina on an emotional night in Manchester.

The message "Davide with us forever" adorned the Azzurri shirt in their first match sincethe Fiorentina captain's death on 4 March.

The Italians will wear the same inscription on their kit when they face England on Tuesday evening (20:00 BST).

Serie A fixtures were postponed after the death of the 31-year-old defender, capped 14 times by Italy.

Before kick-off, the stadium observed a minute's silence as a further mark of respect towards Astori.

Even steven so far. England have enjoyed a healthy amount of possession, creating the better in-roads into opposing territory too.

Ah, just as I say that, the Dutch take a pot-shot from nowhere - forcing Jordan Pickford into action for the first time. Matthias De Ligt loses patience and has a pop from 25 yards, but that's meat and drink for Pickford.

England need to settle down and get quality balls into Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling.

They've got the pace and the trickery. They need to be able to run at people.
