I'm looking at Raheem Sterling and thinking what a transformation since the Euros, and I think we have to put a lot of that down to Pep Guardiola.
He's given him a lot more confidence. He looks like a class act out there.
Netherlands 0-0 England
Raheem Sterling hot-steps his way into the Dutch box, a couple of stepovers panicking the home defence and creating space to lay off to Jesse Lingard.
Hit it! Lingard does exactly that, the ball flying wide with what the England winger reckons was the aid of a Dutch deflection. The referee disagrees.
Netherlands 0-0 England
England are trying to play their forward, patiently probing before Kyle Walker goes long - Beckhamesque - with an inch-perfect switch to left wing-back Danny Rose. Rose takes a touch then tries to whip in a first-time cross, only to overcook it. I think it might have gone out for a throw-in...
Scotland 0-1 Costa Rica
Alex McLeish's second debut has not got off to the best start as Marco Urena steers home after a slick move.

Glenn Lindsay: The England kit is slick, hopefully the match is just as good!
Jay Barnes: Anyone else wondering how long before the 'bring Rooney back' chorus starts?
Sean Pattison: When do people expect Southgate to experiment with his team? At a major tournament? No. You do it in the build-up when a result really doesn't amount to much!

Bad news for Joe Gomez, He had a couple of attempts at running that injury off but pulled up in pain. Shame for Gareth Southgate to have to shuffle his pack so early.

There are around 5,000 England fans inside the stadium. They are all gathered on the upper tier behind the Netherlands goal. After a quiet opening, they are just starting to find their voices.
Netherlands 0-0 England
So after that furore about why a right-back was playing left-sided centre-back (Joe Gomez) when an in-form centre-back was on the bench (Harry Maguire), we end up with what everyone wanted after just 10 minutes.
Gomez's night is unfortunately cut short, Maguire - who has started England's past three matches - gets another chance to impress.
Netherlands 0-0 England
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stings the palms of Dutch keeper Jeroen Zoet as England remain down to 10 men temporarily. Looks like Joe Gomez's night is done and Harry Maguire is going to replace him.

Joe Gomez looks in some trouble. I think Gareth Southgate needs to substitute him.
I'm sure Jurgen Klopp's watching and shouting 'get him off'.
Netherlands 0-0 England
Another minute, another England injury. Not what Gareth Southgate wants to see. This time it is Joe Gomez who needs treatment, going down after being caught on his left ankle in an aerial challenge.
He gives a knowing look to the physio. The 'I'm done for here' kind of look.
Netherlands 0-0 England
First spell of pressure from the home side ends when Memphis Depay reminds us why he couldn't cut it in the Premier League. The Manchester United flop spoons one out of play for a goal-kick.

It's been a positive start by England, they're looking to pass the ball wide and sharp.
If they can do that, they'll have a chance to get balls into the box.
Netherlands 0-0 England
Danny Rose is back on his feet and charging down the left flank. The Tottenham man wins a corner for England, only for the Dutch to easily clear a poor delivery.
"It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming..." rings out for the first time.

It's worry because Rose has been very, very still.
He's coming back on now. He can't have been concussed because they would not have let him back on.
Let's hope he's not too groggy.
Netherlands 0-0 England
Straight away there is a stoppage as Danny Rose gets clattered by a shoulder-barge from Dutch defender Hans Hateboer. The England left-back could have a shiner there.
Rose got clattered on the cheekbone, needing some gentle dabbing from the England physio. Nothing broken it seems, just bruised. They breed them hard in Doncaster...
Netherlands 0-0 England
Finally someone pulls the plug on the decks, and the next sound we hear is the referee's whistle. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who perhaps listens to Little Mix more than dance music, kicks off...

That was some pre-match light show. Can the game live up to the five minutes before kick off?
