What a weekend it has proven to be for Celtic.

First, third-top Aberdeen, who have been their closest challengers in recent seasons, drop points with a draw away to Partick Thistle.

Then, despite being down to 10 men for much of the second half, Brendan Rodgers' side come from behind to beat in-form Rangers to stretch their lead over their Glasgow rivals to nine points.

The title is surely on its way back to Celtic Park and, with a Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers to come, a second domestic treble in a row is tantalisingly within touching distance.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, talking to BBC Radio Scotland: "You always have to have humility in your approach to the game and respect your opponent.

"There was a lot of noise before the game, but that’s natural – they’ve been on a good run and at home, thinking they could get the victory.

"But I think the players today showed their quality and that real champion mentality.

"It’s a big step for us to go nine points clear with a game in hand, but we still have a lot of work to do.

"But an absolutely brilliant win and a great day for the supporters."

"Second-half, we go down to 10 men, but we have a plan for that – we work in training on the importance of staying calm and the shape within that and I thought the last 30 minutes demonstrated the tactical courage of the team and how we want to play with 10 men.

"I can see why Willie’s given [the red card]. Normally, when the centre-half is coming across with the striker, he’s fighting for his space, it’s normally a straighter arm and there’s no drama.

"But when he catches him with his elbow, you can see why they give it.

"We then have to show the resilience, but we coped very well with it."

Rangers manager Graeme Murty talking to Sky Sports: "It’s incredibly tough, but we were punished by not doing the basics very, very well - passing the ball, shifting the ball and defending.

"I thought the second goal in particular highlighted that the basics weren't right - fundamental defending and you can’t get done by one simple ball.

"We get another lift with the sending off and, once again, we didn’t show the quality, composure or tempo with the ball. We were happy to deliver the ball into the box rather than play through them.

"There are a few things in there we need to get better at – it wasn’t just hinging on that one miss."

"Sadly, we lost a man, but we stuck to our task and we defended really well overall.

"We’ve come here four times and won four games, so we believe we can win here all the time now.

"They did a lot of talking beforehand - we stayed quiet. We usually do our talking on the park."

The final whistle blows and it surely signals the end to Rangers' title challenge.

Celtic secure a fourth consecutive win at Ibrox for the first time since 1909.

They go nine points clear at the top of the Premiership - and they still have a game in hand.

And they scored their winner, through substitute Odsonne Edouard, despite being reduced to 10 men following a red card shown to Jozo Simunovic.

Now wonder Brendan Rodgers and his players did an enthusiastic victory dance of the pitch of their bitterest rivals.
