Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed goalkeeper Dorus de Vries was ruled out because of an injury and he was considered too much of a risk in a match of this importance.

And, on today's game at Ibrox, he added: "It’s very important you’re calm and play with concentration.

"We’ve been very good in these games and hopefully we can keep that going.

"Whatever the result today, we’re still in a very good position after the game."

Hibernian midfielder Dylan McGeouch is the latest potential newcomer to Alex McLeish's first squad in his second spell as Scotland manager.

Speaking to Rangers TV ahead of today's match, Ibrox manager Graeme Murty said: “Our players are in a good place, they’re nice and bright and hopefully we got some good information into them.

"I think it’s going to be a fantastic atmosphere and a great experience for the players, we’re really looking forward to it.

"Jamie Murphy has declared himself fit and he offers a good balance to our side. Jamie has a degree of calmness and I think that could be important.

“It’s a boost for us and a boost for him, but we always had Jason Cummings ready to go.

“I’ve said to the players it’s about belief today – they have the talent, they have the intensity, can they keep believing?

“We’ve got to respect their threat, we respect their players and they will be up for it as well.

“I’ve said all along that we need to have a complete performance today.”

Rangers, six points behind the Premiership leaders and having played one more game, are on a roll, winning their last six fixtures since a 2-1 home defeat by Hibs.

Celtic stuttered a bit by being held to a draw at home to St Johnstone then being knocked out of the Europa League by Zenit St Petersburg.

But they have bounced back with wins in the league and Scottish Cup and the only goals they have conceded in their last six outings was in that 3-0 reverse in Russia.

While Brendan Rodgers has not yet lost to Rangers as Celtic manager, Ibrox counterpart Graeme Murty is unbeaten in the two games he has managed against Rangers' Glasgow rivals.

However, the Light Blues have lost their last three Premiership meetings with Celtic at Ibrox.

Rangers make three changes from the side that beat Falkirk 4-1 in the Scottish Cup a week ago.

Striker Jason Cummings, who scored a hat-trick in that game, has to settle for a place on the bench today, with on-loan Brighton & Hove Albion man Jamie Murphy passed fit to return to the side.

Left-back Declan John also returns from injury, meaning stand-in Andy Halliday drops out, while Wes Foderingham is back in goal in place of Jak Alnwick.

The big news from the visitors' dressing room is that Scott Bain, signed on loan from Dundee in January, will make his Celtic debut in goal.

The chat is that Dorus de Vries, the stand-in for injured number one Craig Gordon, may have picked up an injury, but we'll await confirmation from Brendna Rodgers pre-match.

Bain, incidentally, hasn't played a match since 28 October, his last game for Dundee before a reported fall-out with manager Neil McCann and a loan spell with Hibs.

Meanwhile, fit-again centre-back Dedryck Boyata returns in place of Marvin Compper, who is missing from the squad, while midfielder Callum McGregor comes in for Scott Sinclair, who drops to the bench.

Midfielder Stuart Armstrong and winger Patrick Roberts, both back from injury, are also among the Celtic substitutes.

Any hopes Aberdeen had of making a late challenge for the title ended in a goal-less game of no thrills at Firhill as Derek McInnes' side were held by relegation-threatened Partick Thistle.

The Dons will be hard pushed to catch Rangers in second as they are now five points behind the Ibrox side - and 11 adrift of leaders Celtic.

Indeed, they have a battle to qualify for the Europa League, with Hibernian have inched to within two points of Aberdeen after their 2-0 win over Hearts in Friday's Edinburgh derby.

Welcome to what could be the most significant day of the Scottish Premiership season so far.

Some might argue that, to borrow a phrase from Hearts' Craig Levein, the "natural order" has been restored in the nation's top flight, with the two Glasgow club's generally known as the Old Firm back at the top of the table.

But Celtic have been the dominant force for the last six seasons and a victory at the home of their city rivals would surely have secured another title without Brendan Rodgers' side having looked anything like the invincibles who won a domestic treble last season.

Lose and suddenly Graeme Murty's Rangers will have ignited a title race few expected by simply ridding themselves for a few weeks of the inconsistency that had dogged them since their return to the top flight last season.
