Wales manager Ryan Giggs, speaking live on BBC One Wales: "Mixed emotions, nervous, excited, proud but looking forward to the game.

"I have named the best side I feel I can name. We have got a lot of experience and also Declan John and Harry Wilson, players who might not have perhaps been involved lately and they have got a big chance."

Ryan Giggs' assistant Albert Stuivenberg, a Dutchman, said he has been learning the Welsh national anthem and wants to be fluent in it.

Let's see how he gets on.

He's only played three minutes of international football - and that was three years ago, so today is going to be pretty special for Liverpool's Harry Wilson, selected to start in Ryan Giggs' first match in charge.

Wilson is an interesting one for me, he hasn't done too much since he got his first cap. He didn't do too much on loan at Crewe, but he's doing well at Hull, I want to see how he's developed as a player.

I do think it is more valuable and important to the players that the games are competitive, but this time of the season is not ideal in terms of getting the best players there.

But it has been a good turn out and the fact the games are competitive will lead to the games being more intense. It’s a good tournament to have, just maybe at the wrong time of the season! It’s a long journey, but the squad are together, get away from things and the manager can assess the strengths and weaknesses of the players.

Gao Lin: Veteran Guangzhou Evergrande striker. The 32-year-old is most experienced player in the China squad in the absence of former Charlton and Celtic midfielder Zheng Zhi due to injury.

Yu Dabao: On his day, a dangerous forward. Scored the only goal as China beat Korea Republic 1-0 at home in last year's 2018 World Cup qualifier. Currently on the books of Beijing Guoan, having previously played in Portugal.

Wu Lei: Arguably the star name of the China team. Plays his club football at Shanghai SIPG with former Chelsea midfielder Oscar as well as much-travelled Brazilian striker Hulk. He is the leading scorer in the Chinese Super League so far this season with seven goals in just three games, which included four in the weekend's 5-2 comeback win over Guangzhou R&F.

Feng Xiaoting: Centre-back who played under China coach Marcello Lippi at Guangzhou Evergrande and won the AFC Champions League in 2013. Is now coached at club level by another World Cup winner in the shape of former Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro.

Hao Junmim: Midfielder who was the first Chinese player to feature in the Bundesliga during a fairly unsuccessful spell with Schalke. Returned to his homeland to join Shandong Luneng and plays on a weekly basis with former Southampton striker Graziano Pelle and former Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse.

It’s an international window and you have a right to play games where you want.

England are playing, Scotland are playing. People will talk about how far it is but also about international games in general at this time of the season.

But there are not an awful lot of opportunities to actually get these games and it’s important for Ryan Giggs. He’ll want to get his feet under the table and have this time with the squad.

    China v Wales (11:35 GMT)

Italian World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi did what he could with China's chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup after coming in after they had failed to win any of their first four games in the final round on the road to Russia.

China won three and drew two of their final six World Cup qualifiers, including a 1-0 home win over Korea Republic and commendable 1-0 defeat in Iran, but the damage had already been done and they missed out on a place in the play-offs by a singe point.

They have qualified for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, but find themselves ranked 65th in the world and just fifth in Asia behind Iran, Australia Japan and South Korea.

They have failed to win any of their last five matches, including friendly defeats by Serbia and Colombia at home in November.

He is 69-years-old now but still going strong.

Former Juventus and Inter Milan manager Marcello Lippi is the man in the opposite dugout to Ryan Giggs.

He is only one of two managers, along with Spaniard Vicente del Bosque, to have won the Champions League and World Cup as a manager.

With Giggs taking charge of Wales for the first time, Lippi, who won three Chinese Super League titles with Guangzhou Evergrande, is closing in on 1,000 career games.

In its second edition, the China Cup is a knockout tournament featuring four teams.

China v Wales is the opening game, followed by Uruguay v Czech Republic on Friday.

The two winning teams head to Monday's final, while the losers play in a third-fourth place play-off.

Chile won the inaugural tournament last year, beating Iceland 1-0 in the final.

    China v Wales (11:35 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard

Ryan Giggs won pretty much everything there was to win as a player with Manchester United so, along the way, he will have featured in some high-pressure games.

However, he says he never got nervous during his playing career.

That’s in stark contrast to how he’s feeling today – the 44-year-old said he would be feeling “much more nervous” about his first game in charge of Wales.

How will the ex-Manchester United man get on in the role? What is the aim? What will count as success?
