Southampton will be so disappointed to go home with nothing after coming all this way and playing so well. Had they played this well against West Ham last week it would have been a different story.

A Danny Welbeck-inspired Arsenal is not an intro you write too often but apart from that terrible miss? A wonderful assist and two goals.

Southampton - can they produce something in these closing stages?

No one can complain about the entertainment here. Charlie Austin has now scored on all four of his Premier League appearances against Arsenal, but Danny Welbeck could now end up being the match winner.

    Arsenal 3-2 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker

It's a game of two halves, in two minutes for Danny Welbeck. He's done well to score there, but that goal was all Alex Iwobi, brilliant work from him.

  6. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 3-2 Southamptonpublished at 81 mins

    Danny Welbeck

He makes up for it! Danny Welbeck, guilty of such a bad miss just moments ago, gets his second of the match as he heads in at the back stick from Alex Iwobi's hanging cross. Slack defending you have to say - there was hardly any pressure on him.

This game has been all over the place. What more to come??

    Arsenal 2-2 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Josh Sims is very quick, he's an exciting, young player. He'll give them a bit of spark and he should be a real attacking threat, running at tired legs, going into the last 10 minutes.

That’s just plain embarrassing from Welbeck. It would’ve been easier to score.

Shane Long is off and Josh Sims on. He's got pace, Sims.

    Ten minutes to play.

  10. CLOSE!published at 79 mins

    Arsenal 2-2 Southampton

Charlie Austin races up the park chasing a long ball flicked on - substitute Rob Holding can't contain him, Austin in the box, just Petr Cech to beat, can only prod tamely at the Arsenal keeper. That was a big chance...

    Arsenal 2-2 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker

That was great determination from Jack Wilshere to keep the ball in play and get the ball across the six-yard box, and what a miss from Danny Welbeck - a player of his calibre should be scoring that. He's shinned it. How do you shin it over from that close?

  13. HUGE MISS!published at 78 mins

    Arsenal 2-2 Southampton

Another Southampton corner. Alex Iwobi heads straight back to a Southampton shirt. Dusan Tadic lofts in and Petr Cech punches clear.

Arsenal, pinned back, break up the pitch through Danny Welbeck's strong run.

Alex Iwobi then chips delightfully to Jack Wilshere at the back stick, he cuts back acrobatically to Welbeck - the goal is open and he is three yards from goal. Over the bar! He shanked it badly.

  16. 'An Arsenal-esque goal'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Arsenal 2-2 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Southampton truly deserve this - it's a fantastic goal. It's almost an Arsenal-esque goal, nice inter-play on the edge of the box, and it's come across to Charlie Austin who scores. Southampton just needed to play with a bit more belief and they've done that.

  17. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 2-2 Southamptonpublished at 73 mins

    Charlie Austin

It's a lovely little move. Cedric Soares is the architect - he dances into the box from a sharp pass into feet, sells a dummy to earn the space and pops a low cross into the box, where Charlie Austin is on hand to finish.

Easy! He's just come on! Totally deserved.

    Nigel Reo-Coker

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been fantastic for Arsenal today, he's one of the shining beacons at this club. I think he'll only get better, too, because it's not easy joining a club midway through the season, so next season he will be even better.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 72 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

Off goes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Alexandre Lacazette is on.

A change for Southampton too - striker Charlie Austin is on and defender Maya Yoshida off.

Down the other end, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - haven't seen anything from him for a while - plays in a pretty disinterested cross straight into the keeper's gloves.

    Alexandre Lacazette is being readied.
