Fantastic strike. Wesley Hoedt knew what he was doing there, he got it 35 yards out, took a touch, and had a strike. What a goal that would have been.

  2. CLOSE!published at 68 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

Well why not try from there?

Danny Welbeck looks to slalom out of defence and crumples in a heap, Wesley Hoedt trots on to the loose ball and smashes towards goal - Petr Cech tipping wide again.

  3. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

There's a sense Arsenal have let things slip a little here now. We've not seen much at all from them over the past 15 minutes or so I'd say. Southampton on the other hand are growing in confidence.

Granit Xhaka tries an ambitious pass between the lines but it's intercepted. Shkodran Mustafi hoofs up the line. Arsenal can't keep a hold of it.

  4. 'Wilshere great to watch'published at 15:38 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Jack Wilshere is a great player to watch, he's not your orthodox English player. He always looks to go forward, and he makes things happen. I think English football is privileged to have him - he really attacks space and he does it very well.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

First change - Reiss Nelson's first league start is over - Jack Wilshere comes on in his place in midfield.

Lively second half here.Arsenal have played some lovely one-touch football, but Southampton aren’t without menace themselves. Both goalkeepers have been busy and if you liked a bet you’d be backing another goal to be scored.

  7. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 64 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

Cedric Soares winds up from range, Petr Cech shuttles across to deal with it and is nowhere near the deflection off Shane Long as his boot diverts into the bottom corner.

Long wheels away to celebrate but is stopped in his tracks - the flag was up for offside.

He wags his finger - no I wasn't! The replay shows he was.

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Great save by Petr Cech to stop Shane Long's header there. Southampton are in a great moment, the only thing is they don't seem to have the raw pace to catch Arsenal on the break. Mark Hughes may look at bringing Nathan Redmond on to rectify that fact.

  9. CLOSE!published at 63 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

    More Southampton pressure.

Dusan Tadic eventually gets a cross in, it's hanging in the air, Shane Long rises way above those around him despite his stature and Petr Cech gets low hands to the ball, turning round the base of the post. A good stop.

  10. 'Game opening up'published at 15:35 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

The game has become really expansive, which is what we want to see as neutrals. But it's what Arsenal will want, too, because it means their attackers are getting more and more space to play in, and that's where they're most dangerous.

This game is still really open. Ryan Bertrand with a fantastic cross from stage left that Cedric Soares challenges for but can't muscle into at the far post.

Soares then is livid he concedes a throw to Sead Kolasinac. Convinced it was his. Mark Hughes agrees.

Steve: I hope Ian wasn't blaming Southampton's demise on Liverpool. If it's anyone's fault it's the owners. All clubs sell players but you need to replace them and Saints haven't done it.

Jim: Re: Ian: Yes Liverpool have taken your best players but what have you done with the £200million we have kindly donated to you for them?

Mike: What's with all the hate towards Danny Welbeck? The guy may not be the best technically but has fantastic work rate, more so than any other Arsenal player.

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

It's a great flick from Wesley Hoedt and Mohamed Elneny has done really well to clear it off the line. Saints are having a good little period here, they're building a bit of momentum.

  15. OFF THE LINE!published at 57 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

The Shkodran Mustafi school of defending. Slice behind with the foot it makes no sense to connect with, and them tumble to the ground.

Southampton launch the corner in, Wesley Hoedt rises to glance towards the back stick and Mohamed Elneny clears.

    They're still in this, Saints.

Graham Green: Southampton’s fate won’t be decided by Arsenal or other top-half teams. Saints are in real danger of going down because they couldn’t - and still can’t - beat bottom-half teams. They deserve to be relegated.

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It's another great, great save from Alex McCarthy to keep out Alex Iwobi's snapshot there. Iwobi seems to have really grown in confidence in this second half, and he's starting to show what he can do.

  18. CHANCE!published at 54 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg stings Petr Cech's gloves with an effort that the Czech keeper spilled out - lucky for Arsenal Shkodran Mustafi is there to hoof clear.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 53 mins

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

Another really fine save from Alex McCarthy - flying to his right again and tipping behind from Alex Iwobi. A nicer height this one - another Gunners effort from range.

If Danny Welbeck can score against us we are definitely down and will probably never come back. We're a club stripped bare by the owners and Liverpool Football Club. Goodbye to the money grabbing Premier League.
