Former England and Newcastle midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

I have no ties to Arsenal or Arsene Wenger but I felt relief as the last few years I’ve felt sorry for him. Every year felt like a knock on his legacy. I want to remember the first eight years.

You weren’t intimidated by Man Utd in the tunnel, but you didn’t realise how big Arsenal’s players were and they intimidated me like no other team did.

I’d like to see Thierry Henry or Patrick Vieira get it as they’ve got the fans on their side. Fans will give them time - they'll get two or three years to build a team. Players will respect them straight away. Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola both got thrown in at Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Luke: Weirdly not too confident today, we won't be remotely bothered & West Brom will be fighting for their lives

Anthony: We could, in theory, relegate West Brom today and that is an exciting prospect for me

That's not entirely correct I'm afraid Anthony. If Swansea lose tomorrow then West Brom will still be alive - just!

  10. Who else is in the mix?published at 11:33 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

West Brom v Liverpool (12:30 BST); Watford v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

West Brom's fate could be decided this weekend, while Stoke and Southampton occupy the other two relegation places in the table.

Stoke face Burnley on Sunday while Southampton are in FA Cup action this weekend, so their next league match comes against Bournemouth on the 28th.

A win for Crystal Palace today would see them replace opponents Watford in 12th place and go eight points clear of the drop zone.

West Brom v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

As we just mentioned, West Brom's relegation could be confirmed this weekend.

They gave themselves a small glimmer of hope by beating Manchester United, but if the Baggies lose to Liverpool in Saturday's early kick-off and Swansea avoid defeat on Sunday then the Midlands side are down.

The nail in the coffin will also come if the Baggies draw, Swansea win and Crystal Palace avoid defeat.

Fabian: Dear Arsene Wenger, please come save us at Man United. It's been a while since we last witnessed some entertaining Football. And by the way, we have good money.

Simon: Luis Enrique for Arsene. Yes please

Jon: I'm presuming that the Arsenal fans who are boycotting matches because Wenger is in charge won't now glory hunt their games and turn up to Atletico because, well, Arsene is still in charge

  16. 'Wenger's Arsenal kept us hungry'published at 11:18 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

Arsenal were the biggest threat to what we wanted to achieve at Manchester United. They had a sensational team. We admired them. They were always our rivals – always difficult to beat. Some teams come and go but they were magnificent for quite a while. They could do everything. They could win scrappy games and play beautiful football.

They always kept us hungry. When they won the league with the invincibles, you were really determined to beat them the next season.

I really want Arsene Wenger to go on and win the Europa League – he deserves that.

With Arsenal, it’s a bit different [to Man Utd replacing Ferguson] because they haven’t been as successful as people think they should. It’s a bit easier for the new manager because lately they haven’t challenged for a title recently.

It’s not the same pressure as it was for the manager replacing Alex Ferguson after they won the league.

If I was going for a manger, it would be a strict one – someone to get them into shape and not let them get away with the things they possibly have been getting away with.

  17. 'Wenger could walk into Real Madrid'published at 11:15 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It’s a fresh start for the club and Wenger. At times it feels like I’ve been reading obituaries today but I feel he has still got a drive and passion for the game.

The perception of him in England is different to how he’s seen across Europe. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him walk in somewhere like Paris St-Germain, Real Madrid or Juventus. They would welcome him into their clubs.

That’s how he’s thought of across the continent. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him come back and haunt the club in the future. I think the club needed to hit the reset button.

  18. Wenger outpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

In case you've been living under a rock for the last 24 hours (or getting burnt on the English riviera), it was announced on Friday that Arsene Wenger's 22-year reign as Arsenal manager is over.

The Frenchman will leave the club at the end of the season, having led the club to three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including the Double in 1998 and 2002.

The Gunners are sixth in the league and set to miss out on a top-four spot for the second straight season, with their hopes of reaching the Champions League resting on winning the Europa League.

Many have paid tribute to Wenger for revolutionising English football during his two decades in the Premier League, while some still argue he's out-stayed his welcome.
