It's been a massive step for Eddie Howe keeping Bournemouth up for four years now. I don't think he's quite ready for a job like Arsenal, but maybe Everton, he fits the kind of style of play the fans want, if he can add some substance to his style, he could be perfect for them.

Victory for Huddersfield Town over Everton today will push The Terriers to the brink of Premier League safety - which would represent a remarkable achievement for manager David Wagner and his players.

Everton, meanwhile, are still surrounded by uncertainty over the future of manager Sam Alllardyce. He was on the front foot talking about plans for next season yesterday but there has been no clarification of his position from owner Farhad Moshiri after the pair met in London on Thursday.

I think as the whole Everton would have liked to have spent the money more productively over the summer, but that's not Sam Allardyce's fault, I think he's done pretty well since he came in. His primary target was to avoid relegation, and he's done that, so I think he deserves respect.

  4. Allardyce future set in stone?published at 14:56 British Summer Time 28 April 2018

It seems from that last comment that Big Sam feels pretty secure at Goodison Park after his midweek chat with the board, even though a large number of fans want a new man in.

His side have one defeat in six though - and that was against Manchester City.

Players are in the tunnel, Phil Jagielka sharing a joke with officials, Wayne Rooney - without a league goal in 2018 - stone faced.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce tells BBC Sport why he switched Nikola Vlasic in for Yannick Bolasie: "We need to see what Vlasic is capable of. He's had brief opportunities. There is no absolute pressure on us and young players like this I need to see if he can handle the pressure. It's a big opportunity for him.

"There is a lot riding on the position in the league for money and budgets but we think Vlasic deserves his chance.

"The one thing about the opposition is their size They are probably one of the biggest in the Premier League. We have said not to give many free-kicks and corners away."

On discussions with the board for next season: "The planning has been ongoing. The pre-season is in place. Then it will be who goes out and comes in, which probably wont happen until after the World Cup. We just need to get a job done for me today."

Huddersfield boss David Wagner speaks to BBC Sport: "We were able to use the two weeks off for what we wanted and I think we are prepared.

"After the last two results and performances, it was not a difficult task to keep the intensity.

"We were happy that everyone other than Tom Ince was healthy. Because of what we have seen in the last weeks in training we have decided the starting XI. Hopefully we have made the right decisions.

"Usually we are able to enjoy every single Premier League match. The difference is that it feels a little bit like the game where at the end you can have something in your hand - Premier League survival. It would be massive for our football club. The fact we can play this game at this stage at home, there's nothing better."

So we've reached that point in the season where you need an abacus and the mind of Albert Einstein to be able to work out if a result gets a team safe or not.

Our best minds here at BBC Sport tell me that even a win for Huddersfield today will not see them safe but they'll be practically there as so many results would have to go against them.

Still the players warm up under the arched tops of this stadium. It looks a picture and if Huddersfield win come 5pm, it will be bouncing.

  8. 'All but safe?'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 28 April 2018

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

"Huddersfield's home support has been one of the most passionate in the Premier League this season and we'll hear it with interest here.

"One more win would all but guarantee staying up - and with away games at Manchester City and Chelsea to follow before a home finish against Arsenal, they could do with it now.

"Everton can play a big part in the relegation battle, with a home game against Southampton following this.

"They've effectively only got pride to play for, but - having led the Toffeesfrom just above the relegation zone to eighth place, external- Sam Allardyce has his intact, if not the backing of all Evertonians."

Huddersfield are unchanged from their 1-0 win over Watford.

Tom Ince, their goalscorer against the Hornets, is unavailable for this game because of a hamstring strain. Elias Kachunga, Danny Williams and Michael Hefele remain sidelined.

Everton make one change from the 1-0 win over Newcastle as Nikola Vlasic replaces Yannick Bolasie. It is Vlasic's first start since the 1-1 draw with West Brom on 20 January.

    Bolasie drops to the bench.

Huddersfield arrive here having had two weeks off and manager David Wagner says he side are buoyed by a key win over Watford last time out.

But Everton prey on sides like Huddersfield this season. Indeed, the Toffees have 12 wins in the league, all of which have been against sides below them in the table.

There's little room for margin if Huddersfield are to take their Premier League survival into their own hands. They know they need to start well as on the 18 occasions they've conceded the first goal this season, they've lost 16 times.

Now is not the time to continue that trait.

  12. Thumbs up for staying up...published at 14:30

It's a thumbs up for Huddersfield's current position and rightly so.

After the battle of reaching the sacred land of Premier League football, few gave Huddersfield Town the best of chances of staying there. But a win today and they'll all but ensure that the top-level show will be played at the John Smith's next season.

In the opposite dugout today, Sam Allardyce - a man who spent time here in his playing career.

If his side can notch a win and other results go against Huddersfield, they'll be on edge as their three fixtures after today look brutal - Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Welcome one and all to the relegation nerve game.
