As the table above confirms, Nuno Espirito Santo's men are up with four games still to play.
That late Neal Maupay goal was, I suspect, just as loudly cheered in south Wales as it means Cardiff City stay second, one point clear of Fulham and with a game in hand.
The other big winners today were Middlesbrough, who beat fellow play-off hopefuls Bristol City to move up to fifth.

Leading 2-0, Wolves lost their heads when a referee's decision went against them but held on to win despite playing the final 20 minutes with only nine men.

Leading against second-placed Cardiff with Neves' superb free-kick, Wolves conceded two spot-kicks in stoppage time. John Ruddy saved from Gary Madine before Junior Hoilett struck the bar with the last kick of the match.

Of course, for all their star quality, it's Brentford's Neal Maupay who scored the goal that eventually secured Wolves' promotion.

Scottish left-back Barry Douglas, plucked from Turkey's top flight for £1m last summer, has scored four goals and contributed 14 assists to the team's cause.
Goalkeeper John Ruddy and centre-back Ryan Bennett, signed on free transfers after being released by fellow Championship club Norwich, have been part of a defence that has kept clean sheets in 21 of their 42 matches.
The players already at the club before Nuno's arrival have also played their part, such as ex-Liverpool youngster Conor Coady.
The 25-year-old has been transformed from a midfielder who had sometimes struggled to convince and was often used as an emergency right-back, to an inspirational captain and deep-lying sweeper who was named in the Championship team of the season.

Image source, Getty ImagesWith a reported £15.8m price tag, Ruben Neves simply had to deliver in his first season in English football and he has done so spectacularly.
The Portugal midfielder's recycling of the ball and passing range are critical to how Wolves play, while all six of his goals - the pick of them a stunning 30-yard volley in Wednesday's 2-0 home win over Derby - have been scored from outside the penalty area.
The loan market has been utilised to good effect, too.
Willy Boly has been imperious in defence, while Leo Bonatini contributed 12 goals in the first half of the season and Diogo Jota is the club's top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions. He will join Wolves on a full-time basis at the end of the season.
It is not all about the star names signed from European giants such as Porto or Atletico Madrid, though...

Image source, PAUnder Nuno Espirito Santo, who became head coach in May 2017, Wolves have built a side which many pundits believe is one of the best to be assembled in England's second division.
Financial backing was key to that, of course. A Championship-record fee, reported to be £15.8m, was spent on Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves, while a host of high-profile loan signings supplemented the squad.
But those players have still been required to deliver and, in Nuno's 3-4-3 formation which makes the most of Wolves' pace and energy in wide positions, they have done so.
Wolves' fans, many disillusioned after several years of disappointment, have bought into his philosophy and Nuno has regularly spoken of the important role they play in the club's achievements.
The 44-year-old's exuberant celebrations at Middlesbrough and Cardiff may have angered opposition managers, but the passion shown after those important late-season victories has only endeared him even more to the Molineux crowd witnessing some of the best football they have seen for decades.
