James: I'm in a lot of pain at moment, but the best painkiller of all would be the Arsenal reaching the Europa League final!

If Arsenal can somehow get what they need to qualify for the Europa League final, it will be played in Lyon, which is not far from the village where Arsene Wenger grew up. He has never won a European trophy even though he has been to a couple of finals. If you ask him his biggest regret as Arsenal manager it would probably be that they didn’t quite get over the line in the Champions League final in 2006.

  4. 251 not out?published at 18:39 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

Atletico Madrid v Arsenal (20:05 BST)

This is Arsene Wenger's 250th European game in charge of the Gunners.

Just think about that for a moment...that's almost SEVEN full Premier League seasons against continental opposition!

Despite the vast number of matches, Wenger has not managed to get his paws on a European trophy while at Arsenal.

"The target is to get to 251 European games but I believe we come to a place which has a good history in Europe," says the Frenchman. "We know exactly what to do, and how we have to behave, and that is an advantage sometimes."

The John Smith's Stadium. Famous for being home of Huddersfield Town and staging a Bon Jovi concert. Will it be the scene of Arsene Wenger's final game as Arsenal boss?

Unless Wenger can squeeze one last result out of Arsenal in Europe then he will say 'au revoir' in Yorkshire on the final day of the Premier League season on 13 May.

Triumph in Spain's capital tonight and his farewell will be in his native France on 16 May in the Europa League final.

It's advantage Atletico in the semi-final second leg after securing a 1-1 draw at the Emirates last week. The Gunners have to score in the Wanda Metropolitano - or they can forget about playing in the Champions League next season.
