Everton manager Sam Allardyce on Wayne Rooney, who was absent after discussing a move to MLS side DC United: "All the rumours, gossip and miscalculating stories that the media are writing about what's happening between me and Wayne are absolute rubbish.

"They will continue to make it up stories that we've had a row and he has walked out on me.

"Let me tell you, we've handled ourselves very maturely, very professionally. Whatever happens is out of my hands, it is in the hands of the board of directors and Wayne."

On his own future: "Whenever the board tell me what they want to do then I'll know. What will be will be. All I can say is that I came in to do what I wanted to do. The credit goes to the players."

Southampton

Southampton manager Mark Hughes, speaking to BBC Sport: "It has been a huge effort by everybody to stay up. It wasn't an easy situation.

"It was a huge step what we did last Tuesday. I thought we were excellent today. I felt it was a bit hard on us. But credit to Manchester City because they are an outstanding team."

On changes after his appointment in March: "We needed to get to the root of the problem, what was happening and what wasn’t happening.

"First and foremost the guys just engaged. They were prepared to back what we were saying. They really put a shift in. They’re probably embarrassed by the season they've had because it's a quality squad.

"They are desperately disappointed at being beaten today and that's a good sign."

On his own future: "I don’t know. Clearly the club will have conversations this week. We'll have to wait and see. It's a good club."

Sam Allardyce has been in a remarkably cheerful mood in his post-match interviews, despite losing at former club West Ham and getting hammered (pun intended) by both sets of fans at the London Stadium.

Probably knows he'll be on a Costa del Sol beach in a couple of days.

Everton

Everton manager Sam Allardyce, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is disappointing to lose the game when the chances we missed were better than the chances they scored with.

"But then you have to credit Adrian for being absolutely outstanding with three top-class saves.

"All three should have gone in - that's where the difference was. I am pleased with the second half, not so pleased with the first half."

Manchester City

On teenagers Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz earning a title medal: "Now they are champions. That is a rule of the English federation that you are not champions unless you have played five games.

"They have been with us all season. We want to create a group. They deserve to be champions. Maybe they will now receive the medal of champions."

Everton

Everton manager Sam Allardyce on finishing eighth after taking over in November with the club in the Premier League relegation zone: "The players picked up the mantle immediately and started to say 'we need to get Everton out of the position we're in'.

"I think you're there to guide them tactically and make them as fit as they possibly can be and try to give them the right direction.

"The players' efforts from day one to now have been very good and we've been sitting in the top half for many weeks now.

"At one stage we looked like pushing Burnley. Eighth is a good finish from where we were at the beginning."

Ian: When you compare Tottenham's wage structure and transfer budget to the other top six sides, a third straight champions league qualification is nothing short of a miracle.

Stu (Hull fan): Great to see Andy Robertson grabbing his first Liverpool goal. Great talent happy to see him going from strength to strength under Klopp. Hope he gets a start in the CL final.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Match of the Day: "In the end it is a big relief to win the game, an exciting game and to finish third is a fantastic achievement.

"It means a lot for the club, the players and the fans. Man Utd and Man City are a different level to us. It is a fantastic achievement for us after 38 away from home.

"From the beginning it was tough [playing home games at Wembley]. For our fans it was tough to settle here and for the players and the staff. In the end we created that feeling that Wembley was our home and at the end we feel a fantastic emotions here.

"It was a fantastic season to finish third and guarantee the Champions League next season with the move to the new stadium it is a very exciting moment for this football club."

Mohamed Salah now holds the record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League campaign, with 32 this season.

Salah has also scored against 17 different opponents in the Premier League this season – no player has ever scored against more in a single campaign.

The Egyptian has scored in 34 different club games in all competitions this season, at least four more than any other player in Europe’s big five leagues (Edinson Cavani, 30).
