  2. 'We deserved it'published at 22:46 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Chris Hughton to BBC Sport: "Manchester United showed the quality they've got. Without us putting in the work we did, we wouldn't have got anything from the game.

"We've had three results - against Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United, where we've had to put in that kind of performance - and be good with the ball too. We deserved it tonight. Knockaert was outstanding, not just with the ball. Against teams like this you've got to work as hard without possession. It's good to see him in that kind of form.

"With Pascal Gross, what's been important for us is he hasn't been injured and he's always been available for us. We've probably been fortunate we've had a lot of players available in that area of the pitch."

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Sport: "Football was fair to the Brighton boys, they had a big target, they showed the point would be a big thing for them and gave everything for that.

"I couldn't persuade my players that second place was very important to us. I know we can do it, we only have two matches to get the four points we need. They beat us in the attitude.

"For 10 months I get asked 'why always Lukaku? Why always Lukaku, why always Lukaku? Why always this player? That guy doesn't have a chance to start, the other one is on the bench. You know why now.

"It doesn't disappoint me too much, because I know my players better than anyone.

Will Lukaku and Sanchez be fit for the final? "I hope they can play in the final. We have two matches and need four points."

    It begins...

I suggest we are going to see Anthony Martial's name appear in the gossip column plenty more times this season.

I would also suggest that if he plays as a centre forward it will be in the reserve league.

  5. 'Not good enough'published at 22:34 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United full-back Ashley Young: "It wasn't good enough from the first whistle to the end. We put pressure on them at the end, but you can't start like that and expect to win. It is disappointing and we have to dust ourselves down and prepare for the next game."

  6. 'Knockaert's best Premier League performance'published at 22:31 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton defender Bruno on Sky Sports: "It's almost four seasons with Chris Hughton, we've been working with that shape of the back four. It's not just one or two players, it's how we play as a team.

"That was Anthony Knockaert's best performance this year in the Premier league. I'm expecting more from him."

Sion Rhys Roberts: so so angry at that 'performance'. Please can Boreinho leave to PSG or somewhere in the summer. NOT PLAYING YOUR BEST CB BECAUSE HE ISN'T GOING TO THE WORLD CUP?? WHO CARES!! Fuming

Dave Behard: subsitutions came way too late... Should have been made 5 mins before the goal. Especially as Darmian was lacklustre the entire game and was weak for the goal!

stu: Well on tonight's evidence Man United's squad is not as strong as we thought it was

You don't need to be Hercule Poirot to clock who Jose Mourinho is digging out in his post-match comments.

Before this match he was asked why Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have not had many opportunities this season.

"They have had limited opportunities because Romelu has played all the games this season," he said.

They don't seem likely to be getting many more.

  9. Why always Lukaku? Now you have the answer...published at 22:22 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaking to Sky Sports: "It was not good enough. The players that replaced others did not perform at a good level and when individuals do that it is difficult for the team to play well. Maybe now you will not ask me why A, B and C do not play so much.

"I knew what was going to happen and I told them, but that is what we got.

"The attitude from the first minute and especially in the first half, they had more appetite. I did not succeed in persuading my players that getting four more points is important. it is for me, but perhaps not for them.

"I wouldn't say disappointed. I know them. I thought that the possibility to start the game and give reason would give them something.

"You have the answer now when you ask 'why always Lukaku?'. We are probably not as good as people think we are individually."

  10. Why Brighton are staying uppublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

"Show your working" they say, so this is why Brighton are safe.

Southampton and Swansea are within eight and seven points respectively of Brighton with three games left, but, crucially, they play each other on Tuesday.

They can't both take three points from that obviously and one will be unable to catch the Seagulls.

    Job done.

Fran, Manchester via text: Another abject performance against a hard working organised team . Ok having a good record against top six who want to play you, but if you are paying top dollar for a manager, he has to know how to beat teams who only want to stop you. Jose's star is diminishing by the match !!

Anonymous via text: Far too many flicks and one twos not working against an organised side. Needed to be stretching them out wide not playing into their strengths. Martial and Rashford have been especially disappointing it was their chance to step up today

  12. 'A night we'll remember all our lives'published at 22:11 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton midfielder Anthony Knockaert on Sky Sports: "We worked really hard, today you can see the effort from the boys was magnificent.

"It was a night we'll remember all our lives. To stay up against Man Utd is unforgettable.

"It's brilliant for us. We have great quality in the team and a player like Pascal Gross who can create things and players who work so hard for each other. Everyone loves each other and that's what makes the difference."

  13. 'I wasn't sure it was a goal'published at 22:07 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalscorer Pascal Gross on Sky Sports:"Unbelievable. We worked so hard all season but we always believe.

"At home we always believe we had a chance. We never stop and that's why I think we won it.

Did you know it was over the line?

"I wasn't sure. Heading is not my strength, I tried to get it on target."

Taimour: Pathetic from United! Take nothing away from a brilliant Brighton Performance

Dale Topley: I’ve said it a hundred times before. Mourinho takes off the wrong players - Martial was the worst player on the pitch and both him and Pogba made the wrong decision every time. And walking pace? In injury time?? While losing??? What has happened to their spirit????

RichardN: So great how Man Utd have been so charitable to the promoted teams this season. If you could maybe let the fans know if you plan to do this next season so we needn’t bother watching. Brighton fully deserved.
