    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Anthony Knockaert scampers upfield, swerving past Ashley Young and leaving Marouane Fellaini choking on fumes.

The crowd are buzzing with expectation as he pulls back his left peg, 20 yards out.

But the Frenchman's shot deflects over off Marcos Rojo's back.

He looks the man most likely to produce a game-defining moment of magic.

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Better from Manchester United as they keep the ball and build some concerted pressure on Brighton.

The ball zips about neatly on the edge of the hosts' box and Paul Pogba finds a pocket of space 15 yards out.

The Frenchman gets away a decent low shot, hoping to catch out Mat Ryan after making eyes at the far stick.

The Brighton goalkeeper is alert and down sharply though.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 47 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Glenn Murray is the first player to have his name taken as he fells the big tree of the United midfield - Marouane Fellaini.

    Timber! And a yellow card.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on the full smooze, sharing a joke with referee Stuart Attwell as the two teams trot out for the second half.

The half-time pep talk was probably altogether less jolly.

    Back up and running.

On the left - Brighton's touches. You'll see seven inside the Manchester United area.

Compare that to United's touches on the right - just the one in the Seagulls' area.

Paul Pogba has completed only 68% of passes in the Brighton half.

Only goalkeeper David De Gea and defenders Chris Smalling and Ashley Young have been worse, presumably playing over a slightly greater distance.

Sonsofpunjab: This game actually sums up Manchester United's season. They have at times played some awful football against very mediocre sides...Jose Mourinho has every right to name and shame some of these players.

James Pegler: Can somebody kindly tap Pogba on the shoulder and remind him he’s a 6 foot 4, 15 stone athlete who should be steam rolling through midfields & defences. NOT looking for a part in a Hollywood movie, by spraying speculative passes all over the pitch to nobody. Thanks.

  10. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Paul Pogba gets his wires horribly crossed, short-circuiting a promising Manchester United counter-attack.

Jose Mourinho is twitching with frustration on the sidelines.

If they fancy redecorating the away dressing room at the Amex this weekend, I think the paint is about to be stripped from the walls.

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United go back to what worked in injury-time at the weekend - hoisting the ball long towards the fluffy lighthouse of Marouane Fellaini.

The Brighton back four are up for that fight though.

Goalkeeper Mat Ryan gobbles up Ashley Young's hump into the danger area.

Gaetan Bong has taken a knock in a tangle with Chris Smalling, but the Seagulls defender is good to go after a stretch and soak with the magic sponge.

  12. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Marcus Rashford slaps the turf in frustration and he has a point.

The United striker chases a long ball down the channel. Good determination and he looks like he gets his reward as he gets to the ball before the onrushing Mat Ryan by the sideline.

But referee Craig Pawson doesn't spot the foul as the Brighton goalkeeper brings down Rashford an instant after.

Rashford had touched the ball out of play, but it was a free-kick at least.

  13. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Whatever is doing the rounds in the Manchester United midfield, Juan Mata has got a dose of it.

The Spaniard duffs another brain-dead ball into the box and straight to Mat Ryan in the Brighton goal.

  14. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Marouane Fellaini gives the ball away with a kamikaze square pass across the middle of midfield.

Brighton's midfield snap into counter-attack mode and Anthony Knockaert's ball down the side of the full-back is perfectly weighted for Pascal Gross.

David De Gea is off his blocks sharply to drop on that hand grenade.

But the visitors are on the wrong end of everything except the scoreline so far.

  15. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Paul Pogba slips away from Davy Propper, nimble as Nijinsky, but can't thread in Marcus Rashford.

Pogba's next touch is more like the racehorse than the ballet dancer.

The £89m man clumps an aimless loft into the box with none of his team-mates in the frame.

    Jose Mourinho shakes his head.

  16. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Brighton have had just as much final-third swag as United so far.

Jose Izquierdo's crisp long-ranger is tipped over by David de Gea and from the resulting corner, Glenn Murray is a toenail away from getting a touch on Anthony Knockaert's flick-on.

    This is bubbling up nicely.

  17. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Jose Mourinho takes a mental note, and it is not a good one for Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United striker nicks possession as Lewis Dunk coughs up the ball on the right.

Rashford darts into the box, gets his head up and surely spots unmarked Anthony Martial in the middle.

But the pass never comes and the chance evaporates as a mob of blue and white shirts descends.

  18. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United get on the ball and take the sting out of an escalating situation.

    They get into pot-shot territory.

First Paul Pogba has a hearty whack blocked at source, before Lewis Dunk sticks his forehead in the way of fierce Marcus Rashford volley.

    Lionheart stuff from the centre-back.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 21 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

A trememdous effort...an even better save!

The ball sits up as an open invitation for Glenn Murray 25 yards out.

The Brighton striker snaps it up like it is a plus-one to the Harry-Meghan afterparty.

A vicious dipping shot and David de Gea flings himself right to push it away at full stretch.

Every sinew stretched piano-wire tight, a titanium strong hand at the end of it all. Expect to see it in a slow-motion promo near you soon.

  20. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

The Brighton fans cheer sarkily as Paul Pogba misplaces a pass.

Jose Mourinho has a moan to fourth official Stuart Attwell about some throw-in creep upfield from the hosts.

    Five-one Brighton on the shot-o-meter.
