  4. Watch: 95th minute own goal gives Iran winpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    FT: Morocco 0-1 Iran

    And then there was this...

Ehasan Haji Safi swings in a late free-kick (rather carelessly given away by Sofyan Amrabat) and Aziz Bouhaddouz belts a header into his own net under next to no pressure.

    Cue scenes.

And Alireza Beiranvand came to Iran's rescue again in the second half.

This save on Hakim Ziyech was perhaps even better than his first...

  6. Watch: Morocco denied by last-ditch Iran defendingpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    FT: Morocco 0-1 Iran

This is about the closest Morocco came to scoring before the break, a nicely-worked set piece that ended up pinging around the area and falling to Medhi Benatia.

But Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand was equal to his strike...

Right, let's have a look back at the highlights of that one.

Hint: There weren't many until that manic ending.

Just watching replays of that own goal again. It's an absolute bullet header from the striker. Right instincts at the other end, very much not in his own area.

Hard to see a way through the group for Morocco now.

Actually hard to see way through for Iran either. You'd fancy both Spain and Portugal to have too much for them.

Don't let Bouhaddouz in his own area again.

Admiral: What is up with these North Africans and conceding late goals?

Ross: Late, late drama in both games today. Winners for Uruguay in 89th and Iran in the 95th!

I'm really not sure what to make of that one.

Morocco looked a vastly superior team for the first 20 minutes before Iran had a couple of dangerous counter attacks just before the break.

The second half was truly dreadful, more notable for its seemingly endless stoppages than any passages of football.

And then that late bizarre own goal. World Cup football, eh?

    FT: Morocco 0-1 Iran

Iran are celebrating like they have won the World Cup. They defended deep and they were dogged and determined. They probably didn't deserve to win but who cares.

Morocco just didn't do enough and they ran out of ideas after a superb first 20 minutes.

James: I stand corrected, you don't need to beat the first defender to score. My apologies.

Ben: The only thing poorer than this game was that header.

Dave: Wow. As own goals go that was pretty spectacular!

    And that is that.

The Iranian bench stream onto the pitch in jubilant celebration.

It's just Iran's second ever win at the World Cup. What a way to do it.

Morocco look utterly bereft but they've got one last chance.

Here comes the free-kick, no, it's poor and Alireza Beiranvand gathers.

    That should be that...

It was all about the delivery and it's a wonderful ball whipped in, but it is dreadful defending.
