  3. 'We gave Spain too much space'published at 21:56 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    Portugal 3-3 Spain

More from Portugal coach Fernando Santos: "We have to turn up the intensity, the Spanish team have great quality but we gave them too much space and there was a lack of aggressiveness."

  4. 'Ronaldo has an incredible mind'published at 21:54 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    Portugal 3-3 Spain

Portugal coach Fernando Santos: "We have fought until the end and we believed it was possible. We didn't want a draw but all in all I think it is a fair result.

"The result, we are not totally satisfied but the performance was better - the result left something to be desired. We are a very highly technical team and if you don't have the ball it will be hard, we have to correct some aspects of our play."

On Cristiano Ronaldo: "Cristiano Ronaldo has incredible mental endurance, he has technical quality and an incredible mind - that is what makes him one of the best in the world.

"When it was 3-2 he was the one who raised his team. He plays in great teams, is always in great finals so that gives him a different perspective."

  5. 'We are not the favourites'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    Portugal 3-3 Spain

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a hat-trick: "I'm very happy, it is a personal best (the hat-trick), one more in my career and the most important thing is to highlight what the team has done.

"We have played one of the favorite teams to win the World Cup, we have been winning twice and drew and I think it was a fair result. The game was about to end and we managed to equalise so we are happy. Now we have to think about the next match, it is going to be hard, but our goal is to win and to move on from the group stage.

"Portugal is going to start moving through the group stage, we know it is going to be hard, and have to think match by match. We are not the favourites so we will try to do our best. The team is doing very well and we are going to do well for sure."

Then again, Ronaldo is Portuguese, so Hierro would probably get into trouble if he tried to pick him.

  10. 'Absolutely no doubts about De Gea'published at 21:43 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    Portugal 3-3 Spain

Spain boss Fernando Hierro: "I feel extremely privileged because people have had a fantastic reaction to the (manager) situation and I'm very grateful. The circumstances have not been easy at all.

"The Spanish players are extremely professional and I hope this squad will continue to show that motivation. All the players are important from player number one to player number 23."

On David de Gea's mistake: "We don't have any doubts about De Gea and he doesn't have any doubts about himself. Being a goalkeeper requires a certain psychology but we have absolutely no doubts about him."

  12. 'Great commitment and pride'published at 21:38 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    Portugal 3-3 Spain

Spain coach Fernando Hierro: "We feel very proud of the players we have come back and equalised twice so we feel a great commitment and pride.

"This is a mature squad, the team knows what it wants and have been playing a lot together. It is wonderful to have these mature, committed players.

"We are a team, we know that players have good days and not as good days, but we are a team. Diego Costa has played a sensational match but it is all of us together as a team, together. We are not going to criticise anyone.

"There was already a plan in place for the first match so we were going to stick with that plan."

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 live

In the last few games we saw Spain have a lot of possession and not create much, but tonight we were efficient with our play. Costa gave us a lift and there were lots of positives, but at the back we looked a little bit weak. It was only Ronaldo attacking us and we conceded three goals.
