You saw in the game the other night, for large periods Peru were on top.

Yet the major moment in the match was Christian Eriksen finding space and creating a chance for his team.

If you give him a moment in the game, he can destroy you.

He buys into the Danish way and what's expected of him - running around and competing and they know that they can be under pressure for 89 minutes but, if they can hold out, he can come up with something for them.

Kasper Schmeichel has kept a clean sheet in each of his last five matches for Denmark, last conceding a goal 534 minutes ago against the Republic of Ireland's Shane Duffy.

For me the biggest revelation of the day came (albeit indirectly) in your 12.10 post. Classy move from the Danish players no doubt but was anyone else’s biggest take away that Peter Schmeichel is a GRANDAD?!?

I feel your pain Dan. Still remember watching (via TV) Peter playing superbly in the 1992 European Championships (a rapidly ageing Michael).

Plenty of British-based players among the two sides.

Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester), Andreas Christensen (Chelsea), Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) and Henrik Dalsgaard (Brentford) start for Denmark, while Mat Ryan (Brighton), Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield), Mile Jedinak (Aston Villa) and Tom Rogic (Celtic) are in Australia's first 11.

Here's a reminder of the sides.

I was at Australia's defeat by France and I thought the Socceroos were great and a little unlucky to lose - I actually didn't think the VAR penalty that resulted in France's score their first goal should have been given.

Australia will have a gameplan and, again, will give everything, and I think they will get something out of this game. I don't think a draw is a bad result for Denmark, though.

    Prediction: 1-1

Denmark were completely outplayed by Peru at times but they'll be so confident that no matter how they play they can always dig a result out and that's a fantastic thing to have as a team.

They just seem to find momentum to get these results in these competitions and, with the confidence they will have, they'll be hoping they can achieve something at this tournament.

It's a colourful scene inside the Samara Arena. At one end there is a sea of green and gold shirts, inflatable kangaroos too. The other end is red and white. A terrific atmosphere!

Top marks to this fan. I wonder how long it took to him to get ready for this game?

Australia midfielder Aaron Mooy: "We have a gameplan, which we've played since Bert Van Marwijk and the coaching staff took over and not a lot is changing. We just try and do our jobs better.

"The gameplan worked well against France, maybe we need to attack a bit more but that depends how the game's going. We need to win so hopefully we'll get a few chances and put them away."

  13. 'Expecting a slow burner'published at 12:46 British Summer Time 21 June 2018

    Denmark v Australia (13:00 BST)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

This game is vital for Australia. They need to score goals but I'm not too sure how this game is going to go. They won't want to open up early against a Denmark side that is good on the counter.

I'm hoping we have action at both ends of the field but I'm expecting it to be a slow burner unfortunately as the two teams try to get a feel for each other.

For so long Australia have relied on the goals of Tim Cahill but they'll be hoping, at 38 years of age, that he wont be relied on - as it's a tough ask for him to come on and make a difference.

  14. Eriksen backed to deal with Australia tacticspublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 21 June 2018

Denmark's key man is undoubedtly playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Tottenham player scored 11 goals in 12 qualifiers, including a hat-trick in the play-off against the Republic of Ireland.

Head coach Age Hareide is confident he can deal with Australia's tactics to stop him.

"The opponents, they are going to be very cautious and careful about him, but he is used to that from the Premier League," he said.

"We have seen in the Premier League that he can succeed nevertheless.

"We hope that we will get him up to a good level and that he will be able to show good things at this World Cup."

  15. 'They play free without pressure'published at 12:41 British Summer Time 21 June 2018

    Denmark v Australia (13:00 BST)

Denmark coach Age Hareide: "Australia are a bit different to us. We have a few players who are at a higher level than them if you look at the squads player by player. But it's going to be a tight game.

"If you look at the results during this tournament then it would appear that many of the favourites have a tough time dealing with that role. If you go back two years and look at the matches there, then that was the case there as well.

"They leave all the pressure on the favourites because they can play free without pressure. And when a wall of 10 men is waiting for you in the box, then they can become very tough to break down."

Meanwhile, former David Beckham has backed England and Argentina to reach the World Cup final in Russia.

The last time the Three Lions progressed to the quarter-finals was in 2006, when Beckham was captain. Two-time winners Argentina were runners-up in 2014.

"I think obviously my choice would be England to win the competition, but that's me being biased and passionate about my country," said Beckham, who was speaking at an event in China.

Some news from the England camp and Midfielder Dele Alli missed England training on Thursday as his thigh injury continues to be monitored before Sunday's match against Panama.

The Tottenham player suffered the problem during the 2-1 victory over Group G rivals Tunisia, although he managed to play for 80 minutes.

The 22-year-old tweeted on Wednesday that it was "a slight injury".

Meanwhile, manager Gareth Southgate has discarded his sling as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder.

The 47-year-old fell during a run near England's World Cup camp in Repino and was treated in a nearby hospital.

"The doc has made it clear punching the air is not an option," said Southgate, who jumped in the air celebrating Harry Kane's injury-time winner in Monday's win.

"I might not be celebrating any goals as athletically in future."
