Chris: It took Argentina to have huge possession and tiring out Icelandic players to create their goal. Iceland? Bang whollap and goal, blink and you miss it. Unreal!

Gabriel: Now that is it... Iceland of the 2016... Let's win it guys

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 42 mins

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

Another penalty appeal straight away as a cross hits the arm of Ragnar Sigurdsson, he could know nothing about that though. They check VAR, it's quick and comes down on the side of the referee. Nothing given.

  3. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 40 mins

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

Ragnar Sigurdsson stretches to lunge and make a challenge at the near post, Lucas Biglia throws himself to the deck and wants a penalty but the former Fulham man got that spot on. No pen, no dice.

Another give-and-go from Lionel Messi. he dives into the penalty area and gets a shot away but it's well charged down by Birkir Saevarsson. Corner.

The tactics from Iceland are really quite simple, old school. But they are effective if everyone buys into it.

One of these one-twos on the edge of the area is going to come off for Argentina, they are trying some really nice stuff out there. Lionel Messi slides in Sergio Aguero into the area but he's well shut down by Hordur Magnusson.

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

This half is flying by, lovely pace and tempo to it. Iceland bring people back to contain but when they turn the ball over they don't half get men forwards to support. Argentina have had 80% possession but only three more efforts on goal so far.

  9. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

A decent move, started from deep by Lionel Messi who knits together two one-twos, Sergio Aguero then lays the ball back to midfielder Lucas Biglia, who curls one on to the roof of the net.

  10. 'Not a vintage Messi performance yet'published at 14:32 British Summer Time 16 June 2018

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Sometimes with Messi in games he is quiet and then explodes to life. He has had a couple of moments today but it has not quite been vintage yet.

Kat: Argentina won't win it with Caballero in goal.

Adam: Cabellero looks very vulnerable today!

Paul: Caballero cannot be the best goalkeeper in Argentina surely? He's a disaster waiting to happen.

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

This has been an excellent start to the World Cup hasn't it?

Argentina's defence doesn't look great, David de Gea threw one in, France gave away a crazy penalty - all the big guns we've seen so far are not without their weaknesses.

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

Argentina can't create anything from that corner and Iceland then launch a good old-fashioned long throw in the mixer. This game has had a bit of it all so far.

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

All credit to Iceland for the way they responded to falling behind. The smallest nation in World Cup history are certainly not the worst.

It's end to end still as Argentina now win a corner...

  17. 'It was coming'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 16 June 2018

    Argentina 1-1 Iceland

    Pat Nevin

You felt it coming. They just kept putting the ball in, and the quality of balls into the box were great.

No blaming Caballero, but he can only pass it out to Finnbogasson, who strokes it home.

  18. goal

GOAL - Argentina 1-1 Icelandpublished at 24 mins

    Alfred Finnbogason

Well well well! Iceland levelled very quickly against England in the Euros two years ago and they do it again, right back on level terms!

It's not great defending or goalkeeping from Argentina again, Hordur Magnusson's shot is so bad it turns into a cross, it ping-pongs around the six-yard box with Willy Caballero flapping somewhat, and it ends up at the feet of Alfred Finnbogason who sweeps home with glee.

Owain: All Aguero needs is half a yard...

Ruz: Great finish from Aguero. Really enjoying some of the goals at the World Cup already.

That's Sergio Aguero's first World Cup goal - rather surprisingly. Level with Matt Upson.
