    Switzerland 1-0 Costa Rica

Xherdan Shaqiri is a real jack in the box. He's worked a lovely understanding with Stephan Lichtsteiner down the right for the Swiss. A neat flick by the defender sends Shaqiri away and it takes an interception in the area, resulting in a corner.

Stephan Lichtsteiner is in trouble, he's fouled Daniel Colindres and our French referee is bringing the yellow out. That means Arsenal's new defender will not play in the last-16, if indeed Switzerland go through.

It's looking good on that front at the moment.

  4. GOAL IN MOSCOWpublished at 36 mins

    Switzerland 1-0 Costa Rica

More changes in the group as Paulinho has just given Brazil the lead over Serbia. Hopefully these goals mean we are in for frenetic finishes.

We have a goal, so why don't you use that as a kicker to rate the players before the break. As we speak, Xherdan Shaqiri is on the deck after colliding with Kendall Waston.

Jodmos: Think the keeper may have ended up in the back of the net with the ball if he caught that.

Nice Jodmos. Kind of sums up the power of that Blerim Dzemaili finish.

    Switzerland 1-0 Costa Rica

It's almost two and it's almost two for Blerim Dzemaili as he again arrives in the box to pounce on a header down. This time his smash at goal is bravely blocked and the ball is over the bar for a corner.

After those early scares, Switzerland have found themselves like a student backpacking in the wild.

    Breakthrough.

Very much a goal showcasing power.

A strong run by Stephan Lichtsteiner down the right, a deep cross, an excellent leap by Breel Embolo to head the ball down and from six yards, Blerim Dzemaili just puts his foot through it. A proper slam into the heart of the goal.

Just what the Swiss needed. Top spot in the group as things stand.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 28 mins

    Switzerland 0-0 Costa Rica

Joel Campbell looks lively up front for Costa Rica but he gets a bit carried away in shielding the ball from Manuel Akanji when he flicks his left arm out. It catches the young central defender who goes down like a sack of spuds. It's a booking for Campbell.

Earlier I asked you why Granit Xhaka was so disliked at Arsenal given his impressive distribution stats for club and country.

Gordon: I think the problem is Arsenal fans expected Xhaka in as a defensive midfielder when he isn't. In fact he's pretty weak defensively. He's a good distributor no doubt though!

Clive: Xhaka is weak at defending at times and slow tracking back, otherwise Arsenal fans like him.

Thanks for the replies. Keep the conversation coming to #bbcfootball.

    Switzerland 0-0 Costa Rica

Switzerland win a corner which Keylor Navas punches clear. There's a weird openness to this game. There looks like there could be chances and goals to come unless one of these managers decides to shut things up a bit.

Still 0-0 between Brazil and Serbia in Moscow. Still no change in the group.

  12. CLOSE!published at 24 mins

    Switzerland 0-0 Costa Rica

As the stats show, Switzerland seeing more of the ball but Costa Rica better with it. They have alread had as many shots on target today as they have in their last two matches at the World Cup.

And they go close again, with Daniel Colindres slipped in on the left channel, only for Manuel Akanji to close him down quickly and deflect the shot wide. Good defending but the Swiss again gave the ball away cheaply to offer that chance up.

    Switzerland 0-0 Costa Rica

Brazil are going through as they are still drawing 0-0 in their match with Serbia.

Switzerland are also qualifying if it stays like this. Costa Rica have come close though, but a goal would only make things more nervous for the Swiss as they would still retain the runners-up spot over Serbia on goals scored.

As Yann Sommer easily collects a low cross I can tell you the gossip I hear is true. He does indeed have his own cooker website.

Spaghetti Delight is listed as one of the recipes and it looks bang on.

    Switzerland 0-0 Costa Rica

If you're just joining us, Yann Sommer in the Switzerland goal has been busy, pulling off three very good saves already. He's in action again as Bryan Oviedo shoots left footed from the left side of the area. Fine effort, turned around the post.

Not for the first time, Xherdan Shaqiri injects some pace into attack as he crosses halfway, he looks to pass the ball inside but it's deflected into the path of Mario Gavranovic, who wraps his foot around the ball and lets rip from 25 yards. Always wide but not a million miles off target.

Johnny: Favourite player at the World Cup this year for me has to be Shaqiri. He’s playing with passion, like his life depends on it. Him & Xhaka are galvanising Switzerland, making them enjoyable to watch & almost convincing us they could be the 6th best team in the world

Keylor Navas shows his class in the Costa Rica goal as he races out to punch a ball, clattering his own player in Cristian Gamboa. Proper goalkeeping that.

Switzerland a little better. More control, more possession suddenly.

I can tell you it is still goalless in Moscow between Serbia and Brazil so nothing has changed so far in this group.
