I'm feeling quite confident for an England win. They will have to be patient but if they can move the ball quickly then gaps will open up. England just have to be confident and then I think we'll see their superior technical ability on show.

Panama's threat is a very obvious one - and one that will revive painful memories for England.

Gareth Southgate's side must be wary of conceding throw-ins in dangerous positions as this will be bring the danger of Adolfo Machado into play (if selected).

He has a trademark looping long throw and England need only to look back to Euro 2016 to know the pain this can inflict.

Iceland's Aron Gunnarsson caused havoc for England in Nice using this ploy, leading to Ragnar Sigurdsson's goal.

Panama lack serious quality but they are experienced, organised and physical.

They may adopt a more positive approach as this is now a game they need to win - but the smart money is on coach Hernan Dario Gomez adopting an initial 'safety first' approach.

    Just watch the long throws.

“With hopes running high and seeing results such as Croatia beating Argentina 3-0, there is a belief here that Panama could come away with a point against England, and possibly more against Tunisia the following week.

“I will host 120 senior Panamanian contacts for the match. I suspect I will be one of only a few wearing an England shirt. One of the guests will be Panama’s Trade Minister who has promised me that, should Panama score, he will jump in the nearest swimming pool.”

Shaqiri solo goal seals Swiss victory

Switzerland pair Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri face two-match bans for their goal celebrations in their side's World Cup victory over Serbia.

Football's world governing body Fifa is investigating whether they broke rules on political and offensive messages.

Both players are ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, where a Serbian crackdown on the Albanian population only ended with Nato military intervention in 1999.

They made 'double eagle' gestures after scoring, symbolising the Albanian flag.

The country's flag carries the image of a double-headed eagle.

    England v Panama (13:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The most important thing for England is the performance, and taking that into the Belgium game. If Panama beat England, it will be one of the all-time World Cup shocks. If England can beat Panama well today and go into that Belgium game and get a result, they will go into the last-16 full of confidence.

    Terry Butcher

If England's mindset is correct, I think they will win comfortably. Panama will park their bus and try and catch England on the break so we'll have got to be patient. I'm sure Gareth (Southgate) will be telling the players to get the job done as quickly as possible and then enjoy it.

Alan Fisher, Jordan Pickford's school PE teacher speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:

He had that winning, focused mentality, he wanted to win and he wanted to do well.

He knew he was a goalkeeper, but he also played outfield for the school football team, so he never really played in goal for us. That was one of the big things the teacher who was in charge of football at the time, Mr Welsh, made. He saw him as a prospect for being an outfield player.

He could hit a 30 yarder, so that was the key for him playing that position, he could score goals from outside the box.
