Croatia were poor, maybe so but England were not great against Belgium. Who are we trying to kid?!! Russia were dreadful, tactically spot on but not a world class performance. Every team has the ability to play better at any stage of a tournament. Believe in winning, but stop kidding ourselves that there is an easy route/match.

Andres Iniesta, who scored Spain's winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final, has announced his retirement from international football following the team's exit against Russia.

The 34-year-old came on as a substitute as Spain lost 4-3 on penalties to the hosts in the last 16 on Sunday.

Iniesta's last kick for his country was to score in the shootout in his 131st - and final - international outing.

"It is a reality that is my last match with the national team," he said. , external

Croatia might not have been at their best, but I'm SO relieved we don't have to bear a Den-Rus quarter final. At least Croatia can step it up; Denmark are Championship quality + Eriksen (highlighted by the super boring play-for-a-long-throw tactics).

England have nothing to fear? Spain had nothing to fear and they're on their way home. Try and beat Colombia first then we'll talk.

Croatia were very poor and there were very few players who played anywhere near their capabilities. Mandzukic is one of the top strikers in the world but he was bullied tonight. There were little flashes now and then, but they didn't play well as a group.

Having watched Croatia there, there should be no fear going up against them, yes they are dangerous to underestimate, but with a high press and fast tempo we should have too much for them.

Kolo: And that was how Denmark wasted Kasper Schmeichel's 3 penalty saves for nothing!

Mark: Please England - no penalty shootouts in any matches. My heart can barely even take Croatia vs Denmark in a shootout

Nicola: Kasper Schmeichel so nearly the hero for Denmark there... Croatia just about sneaking there way through...

There's nothing quite like losing on penalties. The Danish fans are devastated by that. It must be doubly bad as

    1. Denmark were the better side for most of that game and
    2. The route through this half of the draw is so favourable for all the sides left in it...

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 live

Both goalkeepers were a long way off their line for most of those penalties. It was a dreadful game with some dreadful penalties, but some decent goalkeeping. Denmark are a tough team to beat but they have done their country proud.
