    Russia 1-0 Croatia

Croatia immediately respond. Ivan Perisic's header is cleared away for a corner and after some juggling in the box, Russia eventually get it clear.

Dejan Lovren comes clattering into Artem Dzyuba and gets a yellow card. He's not one of the eight Croatians who could miss the semi-final - should they make it.

Oh my word. What a strike from Denis Cheryshev. He just nips in front of Luka Modric with his right foot. He is 20 yards out and he curls it around the goalkeeper. The first touch is outstanding and the second touch is even better.

Now THAT is the way to fire your side into the World Cup semi-finals. Think you can imagine the scenes here.

An absolutely sensational moment. Nobody here will forget that for the rest of their lives.

    Over to you, Luka...

    Denis Cheryshev

Well, that wasn't meant to happen was it?

Denis Cheryshev has just absolutely smashed it into the back of the net. It's a lovely lay-off from Artem Dzyuba to set him up. He touches it inside, shrugging off the defender, before hitting a screamer into the top of the net.

His fourth goal of the tournament!

Ivan Strinic goes through the back of Aleksander Samedov and gives away a free-kick. It's whipped in by Russia but it's got too much weight and carries straight into the hands of the keeper.

Neither team has taken this game by the scruff of the neck.

England, who you'd expect will be watching on, must feel they will have their chances.

Mario Fernandes is putting himself about. He steps in front to win the ball with his head deep in Croatia's half but it bounces just short of Artem Dzyuba, allowing Ivan Perisic to stick a leg out and intercept.

Croatia are starting to control possession now. They pass it from side to side before playing it deep into Mario Mandzukic.

Mario Fernandes is on hand to calmly head it back to his keeper and Russia can reset.

Russia are easing their way into the game. They are defending well in their own third but they have to have a bit more quality in the middle third.

Among the Russian journalists I've spoken to there's a feeling more players need to leave for better quality teams abroad - if the overall level of the national team is to grow.

Aleksandr Golovin is one who looks like he would fit right in. Lots of nice touches already today, and he loves to fight for the ball too.

Someone with a drum has started up the Iceland-inspired clapping chant thing. Does that have a name? Either way, everyone in the stadium is getting involved.

Luka Modric and his fellow midfielders are just trying to keep hold of the ball at the moment after Russia's blistering start took them by surprise.

Mario Fernandes refuses to give up, chasing a ball down the right and manages to hook it back into play. Aleksander Samedov can't quite gather it in his stride and it bounces off his toe and into the safe hands of Danijel Subasic.
