The best analogy of this World Cup is that Artem Dzyuba is the Russian Jon Parkin. And if you don't love Big Jon Parkin you don't love football.

  4. Postpublished at 77 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Luka Modric has been excellent since the break. He powers forward before releasing Sime Vrsaljko on the right. The ball finds its way back to Modric but it just won't fall for him and his half-volley is blocked.

Vrsaljko then has a go himself but that's also blocked.

Croatia look like a better footballing side than Russia, but as good as they look on the ball, it's still 1-1.

Croatia really are a one man team. Modric seems to be the only one who can shoot or control and pass a ball accurately

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 74 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Ivan Strinic has been called off - he was one of the players on a booking - and he's replaced by Josip Pivaric.

Strinic doesn't look happy about it.

  9. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Mario Fernandes loops a ball in from the right but it lacks pace and is slightly behind substitute Fedor Smolov.

His header drops over the bar.

  10. Postpublished at 71 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Artem Dzyuba still continues to frustrate the Croatian defence though. He holds the ball up, inviting a challenge from Domagoj Vida and the centre-back gives away a foul.

  11. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Russia can't clear their lines properly at the moment. Mario Fernandes, who I think looks just like Roman Pavlyuchenko, hoofs it up-field but it comes straight back through the middle.

He really has been terrific. Who'd have thought Denis Cheryshev would have scored the same amount of goals as Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku at the World Cup?

    Scenes.

Huge applause for Denis Cheryshev. Four goals at the tournament. Two of them absolute stunners.

Will we see him again in Moscow?

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Goalscorer Denis Cheryshev goes off and Fedor Smolov is his replacement.

  15. 'Russia cannot keep playing like this'published at 20:26 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Russia cannot play like this for the rest of the game. It's working well for them at the minute, but if you allow good players time and space on the ball, they will find an opening.

  16. Postpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Luka Modric has had more touches than any of his teammates (68), has won the ball back nine times (three more than any teammate) and has played more passes in the opposition half than anyone else (48).

He really is running the game.

Mario Mandzukic fires a ball in from the right but it hits a Russian defender and is cleared. Luka Modric is straight onto the follow up but the pace of his touch defeats him.

Russia still can't win the ball back though and Croatia are starting to pile on the pressure.

Will that Ivan Perisic shot against the post be the wake-up call?

"We need a goal, we need a goal," is the cry from the home fans. Not the most original of chants but it get the message across.

The thing is, Croatia are really beginning to get a hold of this.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 63 mins

    Russia 1-1 Croatia

Ivan Perisic is off and Marcelo Brozovic comes on.

Punishment for hitting the post? It's like playing 5-aside when you know you should have scored...
