England are containing Croatia and not allowing them to play like they have in previous matches. There's always an opportunity with a ball on the break too, especially with Sterling's pace, to punish Croatia again.

Kyle Walker in a back three, just one of Gareth Southgate's many plus points. Twice already in this second half he's shown great pace and strength to see off Ante Rebic. Dejan Lovren then brings down Harry Kane but no foul is given.

It was Mario Mandzukic who was booked a few minutes ago. We'll worry about it if anyone gets a second yellow. Scrappy stuff, Harry Maguire looks for Harry Kane who is offside and the ball goes dead again. Gareth Southgate is out to applaud his side. Croatia have started brightly in the second half and they have moved the ball well. England are not pressing as high as they did in the first half.

Half-time came at the right time for England. Croatia had seemed to go up a gear in the last five minutes of the first half but Gareth Southgate has had the chance now to settle the troops down. England have been playing it long - it's stretching the play but making Croatia start attacks from very deep.

Croatia start the half with plenty of possession but Kieran Trippier breaks it up on the edge of the area. If England sit off for the next 45 minutes and soak it all up I may combust like a Spinal Tap drummer.

The next goal is massive isn't it. Stating the obvious, I know. That might be all I can manage from here on in.

England keep Croatia waiting for a fair while and now trot out, confidently. They are 45 minutes away from a first World Cup final since 1966.
