Lingard deserves a lot of credit for his movement and running. It was an impossible angle for him to score from there though. He needed to get his head up to pick out Dele Alli's run.

  5. CLOSE!published at 77 mins

    Croatia 1-1 England

This is where you need bravery to get on the ball. Chance! England work it well to send Jesse Lingard running into the area, right-hand side, he hits it hard and low right across goal but it's wide of the target and there's nobody there to slide it home.

England are dead on their feet here. The back three have got no life left and the midfield have lost their legs. Gareth Southgate needs to make changes or they are going to lose this. It's all Croatia.

Steve, Herts: Colombia all over again. Gone up early and sat back. Need to re-group and start attacking.

Ben, London: Poorest England performance! Alli a passenger, Henderson a liability, why didn't Southgate deal with it before the equaliser? Poor management!

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Moscow

The warning signs were there. England have simply failed to regain their momentum since half time and Croatia have been edging their way in and now they are in control.

England, for the first time in a long time, look rattled and the noise from Croatia's support is rising by the minute.

White Hart Spur: Subs NOW Southgate... change, change, change!

Richie: Southgate has been a little too stubborn with Alli and Sterling who have been mostly invisible since half time.

Woah! England nearly gift Croatia a second, there's all sorts of panic in the back three as Jordan Pickford hesitates, the ball comes back in, Ivan Perisic shoots low and hard, it hits the post, and the loose ball is turned on target but easily held!

    Get it together!

It's a great ball in. Ivan Perisic goes around Trippier and Kyle Walker doesn't see him, so he goes down to head it, and the Croatian midfielder pokes it in. It's been coming in the last 10 minutes.

What a ball in. It's incredible how Perisic has got his foot to that one. He gets there just a fraction ahead of Walker. It's a massive goal for Croatia. England have to regroup now and try to weather the storm.
