Rob, Dorset: It's the hope that kills you.

Alex, London: Great effort from the players. Obviously disappointed but very proud. Keep playing the same way and we'll only get better. Without doubt our nations expectations were exceeded but our players proudly showed we underestimated them. Good job.

Dave, Manchester: Proud of our Lions, but can't help feeling that we've missed a glaring opportunity to get to the final here; you have to make and take chances at this level.

Frank: The so called 'World's best Centre Forward ' and ' Captain fantastic ' has been non existent tonight, the manager too has allowed his team to retreat into themselves. Croatia deserve it

Andrew, Devon: Kane looked world class against the likes of Tunisia & Panama, but 2nd class against the rest. Overrated!

Tom in Norfolk: If only Harry Kane had played tonight to hold the ball up...

He's still probably going to get the Golden Boot though...

Gareth Southgate is a class act. He's brought England together. It's been an amazing atmosphere and you can really see what it means to the players.

But, if this had been a boxing match, Croatia would have won it. It was the right result.

This young group of England players have done themselves proud. The fans are applauding them and they can see the encouragement going forward. In the first half, they had good chances to go 2-0 up but the Croatians were more experienced and are a talented group. They sorted themselves out and England didn't have the answers tonight. It'll come but the right side will be playing France in the final.

    England lose the semi-final

    Chris Waddle

I knew Croatia would be a tough game. We made them look very ordinary in the first half but the game is about 90 minutes. Over the course of the whole game they were the better team and you cannot argue with the result.

England started so well but over the course of the game Croatia had twice as many shots on goal (22) and more possession too.

They were the stronger side for the majority of the game and Jordan Pickford's brilliant save from Mario Mandzukic was ultimately rendered futile by the same player moments later.
